[Released] Add Word documents to Review and Approval file types

Completato

We are using Wrike as a full service creative team and need to have the ability to review copy in the system as well. The system currently only allows images and PDFs to be put into review and approval. Are there plans to add Word as an accepted file type to review as well so the approval can be properly tracked before moving to design?

Hi everyone, we recently released the option to use proofing and approvals with Word documents. Happy reviewing!

Hi Krista, thank you for sharing your use case! Our Product Team is working on expanding the current Approvals functionality, and while I don't have a time frame to share, this is one of the file types we're planning to introduce in the future :)

This is a huge issue for our team as well since our entire creative team uses Wrike, not just the designers.  Do you have suggestions as to how people can best review word docs?  Perhaps a copy paste and @ mention?

Hi Beth, thanks for commenting here! As mentioned previously, this is something that's being discussed, so it's helpful to know  about the functionality you want to see implemented. Make sure to add a vote to the original post created by Krista - this will help us keep track of votes in one place :)

In regards to reviewing Word docs now, a few things I recommend are:

  • Using Wrike's Document Editor to review and change locally attached files. New version are automatically uploaded and stored in the same task.
  • Editing files from cloud storage apps (if you already store your docs there) in their native editors. For example, a doc file attached to Wrike from Google Drive automatically opens in the Google editor, where you can make changes and add comments without navigating away from the Workspace.
  • Combining the Document Editor and cloud storage apps with Custom Workflows. As soon as a doc file is attached to a task, the status can be changed to "Ready for Review", and after it has been proofread, the reviewer changes the status to "Approved". Reviewers can track tasks which are "Ready for Review" by creating Custom Dashboard Widgets.

I hope this helps! Happy to discuss these features further :)

Following up on Krista's original request from January.  Has there been any progress on putting Word documents in review?  REALLY need this function!

Anastasia - do you know if there would be plans for cloud storage documents? I understand the markup should be done within Wrike, but I would love, at the very least, to be able to use the Reviewers feature for cloud storage documents too. Currently we do our markups within Google Docs so we don't necessarily need the "Proofing," but assigning reviewers and knowing who reviewed is such a great tool from a project management standpoint.

Perhaps adding Reviews as a separate option within the add-on of Proofing and Approvals. So it could also be done on a task level if needed, even without an attachment.

We're new Wrike users, but I wanted to add that this is a big need for us as well.  Copywriting is a huge facet of our work so having the ability to proof in the system via Word is very important to us.  in addition, having the ability to proof PPT files and URLs would be a huge help.

Agreed, we are preparing to purchase Wrike for our in-house department. Since we are not able to proof word documents/copy we are choosing not to purchase the marketers plan.

This was one of the features our team needed most as well, as our team is a creative department with a lot of copy. I do find the reviewing add-on to be fantastic because it eliminates the need for guessing on who is still left to review the file or who should be changing which task status. So I figured out a workaround - not necessarily the best solution but it is functioning for our department, and my employees understand it quite easily, so maybe it can work for another persons department.

First off, we already create and edit all of our documents using Google Docs, since it has tracking changes. So, yes all of our proofing is still done in the Google Doc.

1. So in a task the content writer attaches his document.

2. Then, he changes the custom workflow to "Pending Review"

3. Myself as a project manager, will now read through it and make comments and suggestions in the Google Doc.

4. I then have a dummy jpeg image that I attach in this task. (This image outlines the steps they need to take to review. Just in case they forget.)

5. I add the image to Review.

6. Assign reviewers

7. They are now tasked to suggest changes or edits in the Google Doc.

8. If they suggested changes they navigate back to the image and select Changes Required

9. If no changes or suggestions were made they navigate back to the image and select Approved

It seems like a long drawn out process but with the team I have they are able to navigate this process quite easily and we are able to use the reviewing add on for our existing docs.

Hi everyone, we are very interested on this feature. We'd love to have the approval workflows for office documents. Have you had any developments on this matter?

Thank you!

Thanks for your input and vote here Adrian. We have no new information to share on this at the moment as the discussions around the developments in this area are ongoing. If we get any concrete information, we'll be sure to share here!

Agreed.  For docs, spreadsheets, etc. the in-line reviewing works well enough for our needs, but we really need the formal approval process to track the reviews/reviewers.

My organization definitely needs the Word editing as well! We love Wrike but are evaluating other tools.

Just wrapped up an internal Wrike training and the number one question was "When will Wrike be able to proof and review word files??"

Has there been any progress on this request?

Hoping for this to be added soon.  It's causing major issues with our workflow and leads to people reverting to email outside of the system.
