Blueprints: Dynamic linking within blueprints

When creating a larger blueprint structure for projects it can sometimes be divided into multiple stages and teams.

(simplified example of structure)
1. Planning - PL + Design team + Dev team
 - sub task 1
 - sub task 2
2. Design - Design team
 - sub task 3
 - sub task 4
3. Development - Dev team
 - sub task 5
 - sub task 6
4. Testing - QA team
 - sub task 7
 - sub task 8
5. Implementation - CM team
 - sub task 9
 - sub task 10
6. Deployment - Operations team
 - sub task 11
 - sub task 12

At the end we currently have added a checklist of tasks (in writing, not linked) to the different sub-tasks so that we can check wether or not all tasks that are needed throughout the process for finalizing a deployment to make sure we don't miss steps.

It would be very nice if this task was able to automatically get the correct links from the current blueprint structure. Today it just ends up linking to the blueprint task if tried. If they were to be linked it would be possible to check their status by the status tag next to their linked name to quickly see if it has been completed. Do note that multiple of these stages/ teams uses different workflows, so it's not always the easiest to create reports/ dashboards for this.

I'm sure there is possible to create a custom dashboard to deal with this, but we enjoy having a checklist or similar to check if all we need to remember has been done for each project.

I'm not sure if this is the same thing as what you are talking about, but just the other day I was wishing that links set up in blueprints would update when a project was created with that blue print. My example is when changes are made on packaging, we eventually need a new image of that product (which often has more than one component). After I create the project I have to manually go in and put these links in so that I can see when both items are available for photos.

I'd love to be able just have links in the blue print that link to the packaging task in the blue print instead of having to create these each time.

Thank you for sharing your use case here Robin Hayes! I think it's similar to what Thomas is suggesting here 👍

Hello everyone,

In my company, we have the same issue. Dynamic links between tasks and/or projects in a blueprint would be great!

That would allow us to create task descriptions like "Please check your notes from task 2c, before starting this task." ...with a direct link to task 2c 😍

Though I am not a developer I can imagine this could be hard to implement, but from a user perspective it would be very helpful.

Hi everyone !

yes please, we also need this feature to get the correct links from blueprint projects in the destination projects.

Yes! I would love dynamic links within blueprints. When I create a project from a blueprint with permalinks in the tasks, I don't want to link back to the blueprint's tasks, I want to link to the newly generated tasks created from the blueprint.

Cansu That sounds promising, thank you very much!

Just to be clear: will the dynamic links only be available in the blueprint description, or is it possible to add them in the descriptions of tasks and/or projects in a blueprint?

Wiebke Willems I just tested this out now, and I created a permalink for a sub-task in the task description itself. When the blueprint is used, it will create links to the newly created tasks rather than the blueprint task as it did before.

Wiebke Willems You can add them anywhere and it will just work correctly!

The project was created through a request form. The blueprint has dynamic links. The links in the project that was created from the request form link back to the blueprint, not to the links they're supposed to go to in the project.

It works when I just create a project from the blueprint, but not when it's created through the request form. :(

I can confirm this does nor work via request forms.

It is the same problem we have to get "not active statuses" of tasks via Blueprints.

This also only works manually, not via request forms.

Hey folks, our Product team is currently working on that, we'll announce once the dynamic links work for blueprints created from request forms 👍

Lisa I thought I read somewhere that the dynamic links were now working for projects created from request forms. I may have dreamed it, but if I didn't, it's still not working for me. Was it a dream? :)

Hi Robin Hayes! I've asked my colleague from the Support team to look into this; they've confirmed this isn't currently supported.
