Hi, we're early in our Wrike subscription, I have to chime in here.

As a CTO and developer, it's difficult for me to understand why there would be a technical limitation on converting tasks to Folder/Project. If I can write a script to automate this via the UI, there certainly shouldn't be a technical reason why this couldn't be implemented by the product itself.

I'm a bit dismayed at the Wrike team's response to this issue (and the strange degree of emotion coming from some of the users - it's a PM tool guys, evaluate it and use something else if it doesn't work for you).

When we start with a business tool, a lot of internal momentum builds around the tool and process. It becomes difficult to switch later, especially if you want to keep history etc...

I'm not trying to beat up anyone at the Wrike team, there are a lot of things I really like about Wrike, but I'm currently evaluating whether we made the best decision selecting this tool based on the response to this thread. I'm taking a look at other tools today to see if they'll meet our needs.

I appreciate that Wrike has communicated that this feature is "Not Planned", that helps me make my decision.

We have requests that come in through our Wrike request forms. Usually they are just one-off tasks. But periodically the request actually involves more work than the requestor realized, so we need to convert the task into a project. It would be great if I could automatically just convert it instead of having to copy and paste all the information from scratch.

As you're new to the Community, let me share some detail on how we work with product feedback. We have a process with our Product team that ensures all feedback is reported back to them. The votes really matter too as the more people upvote a suggestion, the easier it is for the team to understand its popularity. The Product team can't, unfortunately, commit to research or work on every suggestion that we have here, but they do release some of the ideas. For example, here's a list of features released or worked on based on the Community suggestions for 2021. 

I understand your disappointment here, but please rest assured that your feedback is being passed on. Even when the team can't prioritize all feedback, they still do listen.

I concur with all... the user experience is a pain... Sometimes we create task in our SW Dev workflow which creates a date etc... through agile this could change or be pushed into a much later phase, not unlike what you're doing with this based on good business reasons, and we dont want to lose the request but dont want it to hit the gantt or show overdue and auto assignments etc.... so converting this into a project it could sit in a folder for later reference..... please do this. it is cumberrsome to execute the workarounds. THANKS!

A belated happy birthday to this 5 year old creature ("Convert a Task into a Project")

+1 on the need to be able to do this. I was very surprised to see the dev team has not been able to work around this in all this time.

Really hoping feedback of costumers is actually being taking into consideration.

Like everyone else here, would love to see this functionality implemented. What is this status of it in consideration of a future release?

Not Planned = Not gonna happen

We've been asking for this function for over 5 years and they have no plans to make this improvement, which is disappointing.

While this seems more or less a canned exploration given this five-year thread and Wrike's responses that it's not on their roadmap, adding my vote that this is a necessary, needed functionality.

I will unfollow this thread. There does not seem to be any interest of your team to get this implemented based on the continued "Thank you but no" answers.

We will try our best with the current limitations and work around until the next better solution comes around.

Adding my vote to this feature request, as our scenario is slightly different, but the end goal is still the same as Phillip Adams. We had created a task for what seemed to be a small enhancement task, which turned out to be a project after weeks of triaging and requirements gathering. We now have a task with time logged against it, and no ability to convert the task to a project.

Workarounds are all good and well, however having this popular feature implemented after over five years of being requested would deliver real value to a lot of people.

Pretty poor. Earlier in the thread it was stated that this feature was 'coming soon'. Now we're in 2022 and being told it's not going to happen. Clearly the community AKA your customers want this feature and have done for a long time. No excuse not to do it.

@... same goes for any other request in the community. There is more focus on eye candy to get more clients in than keeping clients. I understand the strategy because it is quite difficult to move your whole company to a competitor.

Adding my vote to this one! Use cases from my end:

  • Since Wrike defaults to new items being created as tasks, sometimes we accidentally create a task instead of a project. Sometimes people don't realize it until they've added a bunch of info in the description. It would be super helpful to just be able to click a button to convert the task into a project so we don't have to create a project, copy the info over/input the same info, and then delete the task. (Bonus if it copies over custom fields, comments, and attachments. Extra bonus if it converts subtasks into project tasks!)
  • Depending on the size of the company and how people were trained, I've discovered that some folks don't have a good grasp on the hierarchy of projects/tasks/folders and pros/cons of the functionality. Again, it would be super helpful to just be able to convert a task to a project.
