Desktop app search box with existing text: single-click caret positioning & double-click selecting text - not working
Hello,
I'm having issues with the search box in the Desktop app. I have already reported it via Support and it was deemed to be a "feature improvement request" (although that is debatable in my opinion), so I'm also writing a post here.
Let's say you already have some text in the search box.
Repro for single-click case issue:
- You click in the middle of the pre-existing text.
- It takes a moment for the search panel to slide in from the right.
- The caret (text cursor) is positioned at the end of the text. That is not optimal, I would expect it to be positioned at the location in the middle of the text, where I clicked. As it is, I need to do an additional click to achieve that... and since I intuitively expect it to behave as I described, my mouse cursor has usually already moved elsewhere and I start typing... only to realize I'm adding text to the end of the pre-existing text, not where I actually clicked... so I waste even more time than one additional click.
Repro for double-click case issue (which is of a higher priority to solve, at least in my point of view... a more common use case):
- You double-click on the pre-existing text.
- It takes a moment for the search panel to slide in from the right.
- The caret (text cursor) is positioned at the end of the text. That is not optimal, I would expect the pre-existing text to be selected, so if I start typing, it gets deleted and new text is entered. As it is, I need to do some additional actions to achieve that. As in the single-click example, the time lost is even greater, since after the double click I already start typing, only to realize I'm adding text to the end of the pre-existing text, instead of writing a whole new string into the search box.
Thanks so much for posting your suggestion here Blaž Dakskobler! I'm passing your feedback to the Product team now 👍
