Dashboard Filter - Followed task

Hi ! 

I would be great to have, among all the filters available to build a dashboard widget, a Followed by filter. Especially a Followed by > Current user. 

In our case, managers are monitoring many projects (wrike Tasks) they don't directly own. As they must keep these projects around, they are assigned to them so the projects appear in their personal Dashboards and Todos. This creates difficulty in making the difference between projects they actually own and must be proactive on, and projects they need to follow closely. This difficulty grows stronger as the manager is higher in hierarchy.

We also frequently use the "Follow" feature which is amazing for big teams, as we can easily ping and update all followers in the comments with an @Followers, without polluting their dashboards and personal todos by assigning them. 

A Follow filter would be perfect to leverage the two available "owning" options we have in Wrike.

This would be super helpful for me as well. I manage my current projects through a dashboard, but I would like to monitor the progress of other concurrent projects as well through the "follow" feature, and then have them filtered into a widget on my dashboard. thanks!

Was just hunting for a following feature/filter as well. We often use the DACI/RACI model and therefore have multiple roles regarding one request. I figured if I could "follow" the ones I need to be informed on but am not driving and create a list of just those it would really help keep things organized. Otherwise the notification is just another email.

Hi, Lisa. For us, it would be important to add another layer of control to delegated tasks.

We created a custom field called “Supervisor” to help the delegator to keep control of delegated tasks, but, sometimes, you just want to “keep an eye” on someone’s work. In this case, we instruct the user to follow the task.

The problem is that, since we don’t have a filter for “Following”, followed tasks are hard to manage. The only way to see them is through the available widget that shows all followed tasks (no other filter can be applied).

So, if a filter for “Following” was available, we would be able to create custom widgets or reports for tasks that we follow and are delayed, for example.

If you have supervisors who need to keep an eye on the work performed by multiple users, have you considered creating folders (that can be used as tags) for your supervisors? They could have folders for all users they are supervising and add tasks of those users to those folders and then create widgets based on them. Could that approach work for you?

Hi. I’ll try that. I think it’s a good workaround, but looks unmanageable. I can check which tasks a user follows, but would need to guess the folder names to find out what they are monitoring using this strategy.

The other problem, that we experienced the first day trying to use folders, is that anyone can remove the folder from the task.

Need this option as well.  People want a dashboard to see what they are tracking without having to sort through the clutter. 

I see the option to follow, but not to "Like" so don't know where the current vote is.  Can someone help?

Thanks, Juan.  I did find this and am using it.  The main limitation of this option is it does not appear to let you select the source (folder) for the tasks you want to show.  As a consequence, it shows all followed tasks, even those from other spaces.  A source space/folder with a subfolder option used in other areas would be great!

+1 for a "Followed" filter. The 'Followed tasks' widget will suffice for now, but it would be nice to be able to use this same filter in a custom widget so that I can create different widgets, i.e. 'Due Next Week', 'Overdue', etc. 

Loren Markle, came here looking for answers to the opposite of the issue you're experiencing, between your comment and Juan's, I have managed to figure it out... the dash will auto-select the entire space you're creating the dash from, you can change the data source here:

 

This may not be quite what you're after, but sharing in case it is helpful.

 

Edit - a limitation of updating the data source = entire account, is that I lose the ability to add custom fields to the followed tasks table view, and so another +1 for the custom 'Following' filter (I can vote twice, right 😆).

Hey Lauren, would it help to 1) add grouping by the due date to the followed tasks as we have in custom widgets and 2) scope tasks to the data source selected? It's unlikely we'll add "Followed" filter.

By the way, the Followed tasks widget template already creates a widget with the followed tasks only from the selected data source.

Hi Vladimir, grouping by date does not buy me anything.  For your number 2 item, I think that is what I am asking for. The Tasks I Follow widget I created was from the list available, but it not only shows tasks from the space I created it in, any task I follow, even in other spaces.  So, I have tasks showing that are not related to the dashboard and space it was intended for.  I need to point the widget to only consider active tasks in the space or a particular folder as other widgets do. I also do not seem to be able to edit that widget to see what other options might be available.  I can edit other widgets on the dashboard.

Loren, thank you for your response! Can you please elaborate on your use case, then? Why do you need to see active tasks in a specific space followed by you? Do you follow tasks explicitly, and if that's the case, why? I'm asking because your usage doesn't follow typical patterns for the followed tasks.

Fundamentally, a dashboard is for a specific purpose/audience.  Why would I want to see tasks I follow for another space that has nothing to do with this space and does nothing but provide clutter and make it difficult to find what I was wanting to see?  For this space, I want to see the tasks I am following...for this space only.  Same for the other widgets on this dashboard.  For another widget on the same dashboard, I have tasks I am assigned...for this space only.  I have several thousand tasks.  It this showed all my active tasks in all spaces, it would be very difficult to find what I wanted to see in this widget.  For tasks I follow, it is the same thing.  The main purpose for this particular dashboard, is to provide a simplified view for tasks owned by or followed by the user viewing the dashboard.  They may have hundreds of tasks, but only a few in this space.  They should only be viewing the few that are what the dashboard is designed for.  

It is as if you have several email addresses, but you want to only see the few emails sent to one address.  If you have no way to see just the one inbox for those emails only or are able to filter out all the other emails to see what you want, it makes that see-everything inbox pretty cumbersome to use effectively.

Loren, I'm sorry, but I mentioned earlier that if you select a specific space as a data source and then select the "Followed tasks" widget template, it will only show the followed tasks in this space. It solves the problem for the particular use case mentioned by you

"this particular dashboard, is to provide a simplified view for tasks owned by or followed by the user viewing the dashboard" 

If it doesn't, then there is something more nuanced, and we would like to understand that.

Ahhh...ok.  I took a look and could not see anything that made it space specific.  How would you like to move forward?  This is what I see.

New widget creation in the space/dashboard I am wanting it in.

Widget selection...

This says for only one space, but when I create it, it shows me many tasks from other spaces.

Vladimir Bugay Yes, grouping by date would give me what i'm after and allow me to manage 'followed' tasks in the same way I manage my own - currently, I'm having to add myself as an assignee to all tasks I'm interested in, so that I have one view/process for what's 'overdue', 'due' and 'next' across all spaces.
