Feature Request - Time entry in sub-tasks needs to roll up to Parent Task

When we set up a project we have a custom field that contains a invoice milestone for each project task that is a client deliverable

We also estimate each resources time before the project starts so we can compare estimate vs actuals for each of the delivery tasks

Under a Task there may be several sub-tasks, but when someone enters time to a sub-task it doesn't roll up to the parent task.

This is an issue for us as we would like to compare our estimates, but the actuals will contain hours logged to sub-tasks that don't show up to the parent task.

Please let us know if this can be enabled (possibly using a check box that says, "Hours on sub-tasks roll up to parent task?"

Thanks

Lisa,

Is this only in the Gantt view?

  • One-click to automatically adjust a parent task’s or a project’s start date, end date, and duration when any subtask is added or rescheduled.
  • Bottom-up roll up dates to a parent task from any subtask within the Gantt Chart view.
  • Roll-up functionality from subtasks is available for parent tasks and projects.

I would love to see this in the task itself as well.

For example:

The top image is what the top task with nested subtasks currently looks like. It shows the current time being tracked, and all time tracked to that task. I think you could add another bullet point and a bolded time logged that shows all time for that + all subtasks.

Is this kind of thing being explored?

Thanks!

Respectfully Yours,

Grant

Adam/Lisa,

I will also note that the feature as used in the Gantt view still isn't exactly helpful:

It puts the sum of the subtasks next to the total from the main task, but doesn't sum them all together. That seems really odd, and if you are doing reporting for the project you still have to do extra math to put together totals. It also doesn't include the sum of time for tasks that have been completed, which seems counterproductive since who really cares about only seeing active time on active tasks? Usually if you are project managing, you want to see the total time used on a project or task up to that point, including on completed tasks.

Respectfully Yours,

Grant

My team and I would would really like this feature. Or an ability to change a parent task to a folder and/or project (I believe this has been requested by many on another chat) which rollup automatically. I am using this for budgeting and my custom calculated fields, such as funds remaining, would not update at the parent task level without the rollup fucntion from the daughter sub-tasks being active. Needless to say these task structures take considerable attention and effort to build and alot can go wrong if one takes the long route of restructuring- not to mention time and effort.

100% support this.  It's only logical for all entities in Wrike to roll up with the same logic.  It's a great structure that differentiates Wrike and one of the main reasons I'm here, but these inconsistencies around how Project/Task dynamics vs. Task/Subtask dynamics function are very annoying.

Great commentary Grant PetersonI hope your feedback is really going to be taken into consideration, and not ignored into the depths of the abyss of this forum, where year's worth of suggestions like yours are sitting completely forgotten at this point...

We desperately need subtasks Effort to automatically Sum to the parent task.  For our use case, our department's intake/request form generates a task, and we use sub-tasks assigned to each functional area estimate their Effort.  But each subtask of functional area's Effort should Sum to the parent intake task so we can see (in black, not grey) the total effort to fulfill the request.  We'd love to be able to sort our intake/request folder by Effort, but it currently requires manually typing in the Effort we see in the grey number (which leaves room for error) - screenshot below.  If we had a Sum/Rollup button, just a like Project has, it would solve for us.

Adding a big +1 to this request; it feels very counterintuitive to NOT have all the subtasks effort be added up and shown on the parent task level. Yes, it's there greyed out next to it, but it's really not very user friendly. In fact, we've been using a workaround to just log time on main tasks as it would throw off a whole bunch of other fields off that we have tied to the effort field.
It would only be logical for task & subtask to follow the same logic as project & task (when I just started using wrike I couldnt figure out how roll-up was working because of this..). Would be really great if this can be fixed soon.

Upvoting this - We've had a lot of frustration with how Wrike is totaling hours in the Aggregation function for Effort, Time Spent and custom formulas, like Effort-Time Spent.

What about in Analyze? We're trying to analyze our work at the parent level of certain tasks but because no effort is planned or time spent put there - Analyze is giving me zeros when I create a widget. Am I missing a step?
