Custom Field Management: Default 'Source' to 'This Project' instead of 'Parent folder'

Hello,

Within a project created from a request form/template project, Is it possible to default the 'Source' for custom fields to 'This Project' rather than 'Parent Folder'?  I'm looking to share specific projects, and all of the custom fields within that project, with my regular users, but I do not want to share the entire parent folder with them.

As of now I have to manually go into each new Project > Custom Field Management and switch the source of each of ~20 custom fields from 'Parent Folder' to 'This Project' in order for the project assignee to see the custom fields.

Thanks,

Nathan

Hi Nathan, I think I understand what you're looking to achieve. I guess these Projects you need to share Custom Fields with are generated via a Request Form?

Have you shared the Custom Fields with the Template Project you're using?

Hi Stephen,

1. Custom fields are created on the parent folder level & Selected those custom fields and did "Apply to Projects and Folders" and "share with everyone" option.

2. External request form is created in such a way that, whenever end user submits the form, it will create automatically a project inside this parent folder as a project. And I could see all those custom field values which was entered in the form as exactly the same in my own space/Folder/Project level.

3. Whenever I share the project alone to the other user, they are able to see the project in left side of the panel but none of the custom fields are visible to them. Can you please help me on this.

Work around did: Created a sample folder for other user with all those custom fields and once we drag the project in to the sample folder they are about to see those custom field values.

Hi Ramesh Damodaran, welcome to the Community 🙂

Here's the info on how the Custom Fields can be shared as a template if the person you're sharing them with doesn't have access to the parent folder: https://help.wrike.com/hc/en-us/articles/209603049-Custom-Fields#share (please see Option 2: Share the Field as a Template).

Hope this helps!
