What is the dark blue bar on the left of a Gantt Chart task?

Hi All,

Some of the tasks in my Gantt Chart view are showing up with a darker blue bar on starting edge of the duration bar. These seem to affect automatic rescheduling but I cannot find any documentation on them nor can I figure out why they are attached to some tasks and not others.

Sometimes these blue bars show up randomly in the Gantt Chart not connected to any one task but to the left on an earlier date.

Can anyone tell me what these represent, how they function, how to add/modify/delete one? Point me toward some documentation?Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Hi Lisa,

I checked where this occurred on my Gantt charts, and it seems to only happen when the dependent task occurs much later than the one before it.

Maybe the purpose is to indicate that there could be a delay, because technically it thinks you can go ahead and get started on the next task? That's just a hypothesis!

Thank you Anna for looking into this and for your response.  That does not seem to be the case on our project.

I'm hoping that someone can point me toward some documentation on this functionality.

I think this occurs when a task date is discretely assigned and conflicts with the assigned predecessor.  Test it out and let me know what you guys think.

To correct it, it looks like I have to either realign the task date to match its dependency, or set to backlogged and re-enter the dependency.

Thank you Trevor.

Interesting and may be somewhat related, however, some of the tasks I see that have these bars do not have a predecessor, while others have one that is on the same start date (and configured as such). Sometimes I see these bars all by themselves, not attached to a task, but on the same line as a task. In this particular case, we have 3 discrete tasks that need to align on a start date based on a four task's start date, but the three tasks are not connected (FS or SF or SS) in Wrike with the fourth or each other.

Does anyone have access to any documentation about these added bar lines?

Hi Lisa, thanks for posting in the Forum 🙂
These vertical lines are Date Constraints. They signal the earliest date a Task can begin on. Once it is in place, the Task cannot be automatically rescheduled to a date prior to the constraint. I'd suggest checking out the Help Center page on Date Constraints on the Gantt Chart
If you have any further questions, please get back to me here, I'll be happy to help 👍
