[Status: Investigating ๐ต๏ธโโ๏ธ] My Work and Dashboard view should be enabled to display based on Start Dates!
We have the bigger part of our tasks with a duration of 7 days or more. Based on the My Work of Dashboard views, everybody gets a reminder on what they need to do, too late!ย
They now get a signal to start with a task actually on the day they need to finish it! This results in chaos.
Can you create a setting where we can visualize tasks based on start-date in both the My Work and the Dashboard view?ย
Thanks in advance.ย
Our team has similar problems... Looking at widgets that show End Date doesn't help people prepare for work if they can't see the tasks in order of Start Date - because that's when they need to actually start working.
I 100% would love to see this. It's so simple. We need to know if a task should be started not just when it is due. It is such a bad practice to only think of your projects in just due dates. By the time a task makes it's way into your view by due date it's too late. Currently we are working around this problem by using a custom field for due date and then just creating 1 day tasks. It's a total pain to manage. Please please please add this!
I agree! Our team is struggling with meeting deadlines because they can't see when they are supposed to start a task. They might have two weeks to complete it, but it doesn't show up on their lists/radar until it's closer to the due date and by that time the task is already in jeopardy. Seems like a pretty standard function that many other project management tools have. Would love to see Wrike implement it.
Agree - sorting by start date would be most helpful, or at the very least having the option to do so. I'm used to keeping track of incoming projects by start date, and then sorting my to-do list by priority. For that matter, why can't all folders and lists be ordered in any way the user sees fit? Why are they limited at all?
I am having this issue too.ย Has this problem been addressed?ย Or has anyone figured out a satisfactory work around?
Harriet Cookeย - We created a custom field called "Completion Date" and converted all of our tasks to 1 day tasks so that we could arranged by start date. Then we would use our custom field as an internal pointer for our targeted due dates. But, this obviously is an insufficient workaround if you rely on Gantt Charts or don't have a professional account.
Let's keep spreading the word until Wrike adds this very simple feature. :)ย
Thank you so much Justin!ย I appreciate the quick response.ย ย
I'm setting up a training scheduler, so we absolutely have to sort by start date.ย We are also making use of the calendar feature for scheduling, so we have to have the correct dates in place to populate the calendar..Wrike is perfect for this except for the backwards sorting.
I will try to add a start date field to sort by, but it is very disappointing to have to create a work around when the data is already displayed on the dashboard.ย it just needs to be the start date instead of the end date as others above have commented.ย It will take me longer to create the work around than the rest of the project which was done in an afternoon.
Have an awesome day!
ย
I started on my work around, but the due date is still visible creating the perspective that it is the start date.ย I'm afraid this won't work at all unless I can sort by start date and choose the date that is displayed on the dashboard. I am abandoning the work around and looking for another option. Thank you for the help.
Harriet Cookeย Yea, that's the flaw with my workaround, but my team has come to understand that the due date is not really the due date. Instead we use the completion date internally. Externally, I had to work with the Wrike API to connect to a client portal we built internally (yes, that's how badly we need this feature). So, clients will see a timeline similar to what you'd expect in Wrike while internally we see the two separate fields. If you come up with something better, definitely share!
This would be a great functionality added to sort by Start date of tasks/projects. It would make it really easy to visualize all upcoming projects.ย
ย
Thank you in advance for your consideration.
Best,
Mihret
Hey everybody, thank you for all of your feedback and use cases here. They've been passed on to our Product team. As soon as I have an update for you, I'll let you knowย ๐
Has this gone anywhere? Sorting by start date is basic project management 101. I could code it myself if you give me the open sourceย
I haven't heard anything.ย It is still a problem for our team.ย The lull created by the pandemic lessened the issue a tad, but the lull is over now.ย We have to duplicate work in MS Outlook and Excel to work around it, but still causes confusion that has to be addressed each time.ย I would love to hear good news that it has been solved!
Hello Harriet Cooke, welcome to the Community Floyd Brantley,ย
Thanks for posting! Currently, I do not have new updates on sorting. I wanted to check with you if you've considered adding a custom widget to your Dashboards to filter by the tasks by the start day.ย
Please let me know if this helps for now ๐๐ปโโ๏ธ
Yep, no response. I reached out to sales reps, tried to consolidate all of the threads that are requesting this feature, but couldn't make any progress. We moved to Click Up a few weeks ago and are not disappointed! Wrike is a dinosaur in this market now. No significant improvements in years. The "new experience" is the same set of features (actually a few removed), just rearranged in a more cumbersome manner. Adios Wrike!
@...ย I do not see that button anywhere. I am an admin for our Wrike system, and we are on the Business plan. I googled it and supposedly I should be able to see this page if I am an admin.
Justin Fortierย Thanks for the suggestion. I will be looking into Click up. It looks to be 1/3 of the cost of Wrike Business, and you're telling me it has all the same features if not more?
@...ย Thank you for the time you took to create the detailed explanation.ย Your solution is the method I am using to sort my tasks on our dashboard.ย It works wonderfully to keep the tasks in start order on our dashboard for quick reference of what is coming up as we work through our project load with the rest of the teams.ย
Unfortunately, the completion dates are the dates that are visible on the dashboard. While we can ignore them inside our own team (also unfortunate effort), it is a red herring and a source of confusion when we work with other teams.
We spend time either explaining why they should ignore the dates or pre-empting the confusions with other methods.
To combat the confusion:
1. We type the date range of the task in the title so that folks can see the start and end date.ย It does make the title unwieldy, but it does show up when we open the task.
2. We use a combination of Excel and MS Outlook when communicating to other teams.ย This is disappointing as Wrike could do both except for the confusing visible end date that is perceived as a start date.
It is very difficult to convince people to migrate their task tracking to Wrike when they have to continue to use their previous method to work around Wrike.
Question - How many votes would it take to get this promoted to visibility to work on?
ย
How is this not a feature? It seems that all everyone is asking is the ability to show task items by start date and not always finish date. The option to change would be nice. I don't see why after 2 years it can't be added to show the start date OR the end date. Yes, you can filter in the dashboard to have the start date and it will show up but that doesn't change the information that is being displayed in the task itself. It still displays the end date.ย
Please add this feature..ย
This is still a huge problem for us and always the first topic that comes up when we discuss Wrike vs other platforms.ย ย
Thank you for your feedback, folks! Soon (when there are 60 upvotes for the original post here) we'll be able to add a Product status here so that there's more clarity ๐

Hello all,ย
It looks like the only way to get a feature considered by Wrike is to have the original post get 60 upvotes. It amazes me that there are people saying this feature is the number one thing that comes up when they consider LEAVING the Wrike platform but Wrike chooses to not do anything until it gets 60 upvotes or more. Not sure why they wouldn't take the multiple comments and variety of posts into consideration and just listen to their community but I guess that is just their process.ย
It looks like this original comment at the top is at 53/60. If we could all have our team members go and like that post above from Andrรฉ Hahn, maybe we can see some progress on this. By the looks of it would be years down the road before something is implemented but maybe we will save someone else the headache in the future. Not really impressed by how they take "customer feedback" so hard to say if we will be around - but you never know!
Thanks all.ย ย
We have 60 upvotes!
Hi everyone! Thanks so much for your upvotes here, we now have 60 upvotes here indeed ๐
I've checked with our Product team and also asked them to provide status here. I'm pleased to let you know that they are currently researching this potential enhancement for Dashboards (and My Work is no longer available in Wrike). That's why the status here is Investigating at the moment. The team is planning to introduce the ability to show the start date and also sort by start date in Dashboards depending on how this research goes, so we'll keep you posted ๐ย

So will this change be reflected in the current "My to-do" lists? I would think it would just be an added field under the filters by "Start Date"
Hi Sara Wahlund! For now, the team is researching the enhancements for dashboards, but I will pass your feedback to them anyways ๐
