Projects don't show up on calendar
I am a full user. When I try to make a calendar, Smart based on Projects, I choose a folder that has six projects, which are editions of our newsletter, each with tasks and subtasks. None of these show up on my calendar. I don't see any other way to do this. If I choose Smart based on Tasks, it shows me a list of every subtask. I don't want that. I just want to see the editions of my newsletter so staff can see what will go out on what day, like an editorial calendar. Thanks for any tips.
Hi Jennifer,
Some things to review:
Do you have any filters set in the settings of your Smart based on Projects calendar?
Are the projects within sub folders?
Are the projects shared with you?
Do you have full duration or end date selected in your settings?
Hope this helps
Jacky
Thanks! I have no filters, the projects are in a upper level folder and I clicked the button to see that and I can see a project my coworker set up but not the ones I set up. Everything is shared with me and my team. I clicked end date so I don't see the range, just when the edition published. I'm stumped.
Can you see them if you select full duration?
Nope, my coworker's series of project is still the only one showing. All the project folders are at the same level and shared with me so I don't get why they don't show up the same.
Hi Jennifer,
I got nothing else. I hope you get this resolved and would be interested in the outcome.
Have you tried the help portal? Sorry I couldn't be of more assistance.
Cheers
Jacky
Thanks, Jacky. I am stumped too!
Hi Jennifer, let me raise a Support ticket for you so we can see what's happening. This might be an obvious one, but are you sure the correct month is selected in the Calendar - this sometimes gets me! And also check that all the Projects have Start and End Dates so the Calendar knows where to place them. Someone will be in touch by email to discuss soon anyway 👍
@Jacky, great questions to check, thanks for helping!
Stephen - we have a winner! My projects only have an end date. That should be added to the directions on how to make a calendar!
Thanks all,
Jennifer
😓 Phew!
Happy you figured it out. And you're right, I'll take a look at updating this on the Knowledge Base article soon. Thanks for coming back to me on this!
It makes no sense that a Project needs a StartDate to show up in a SmartCalendar for Projects that is only to show the EndDate. I have projects created from Request Forms that use Blueprints, and the requestor only knows when they need something finished... not when the work will start. So it makes no sense to ask them a StartDate. And I don't see any way to make a Project have the StartDate default to a set number of days before the EndDate like you can do with Tasks.
I second what Lee Elkins says here! Our company functions the same with with Blueprints. None of our projects have start dates, only end dates. In order for us to utilize the Calendar feature we will have to manually put in start dates - not ideal.
Thanks for your feedback here, guys!
@Kristin, there's a Product Feedback thread on this topic created by @Lee, please check it out - you can upvote it and add your use-case there as well 🙌
