Additional Field in To-Do List: Parent
Hi everyone,
I would like to be able to add a 'parent' field in the to-do list. The idea being that this field shows the direct parent of the item in the to-do list.
Consider the following situation:
Project Item A
Task Item 1
Task Item 2
Currently, when Task Item 2 is displayed in the to-do list, as far as I am able to figure out there is no way for Task Item 1 to be displayed as a field displayed in their to-do list.
There is, however, a similar function available: the location field. I believe this field works by displaying the nearest project in the item hierarchy. This means – using the example above – that if Task Item 2 is in my to-do list, the display field can show me Project Item A in one of the columns.
Working in manufacturing/production, our company has a repeatable workflow. In other words, our work follows a structured and sequential process. This means Wrike blueprints are crucial; instantiating blueprints allows us to reduce our administrative workload. This is because we can insert 100+ lines in a space, all of which are repeatable for each project.
This means that Task Item 2 has a generic naming. Meanwhile, we update Task Item 1 to include a project-identification number. This is why we want to display the parent field; it will help us to identify both the related task and project identification.
Manually inserting both these pieces of information (i.e. the related task and project identification number) into Task Item 2 would be a huge disadvantage, as it would increase our administrative workload. There are some other workarounds (using additional fields), but while bearing a slightly lower administrative burden than manual inputting, it overall makes the UI less intuitive and user friendly.
Hope this feedback was clear and that I did not miss anything. If you have any other tips or general feedback, then this is also always welcome in the replies below!
Hi Anthony O'Donnell,
why don't you use a standard table view instead of the My To-do list? You would be able to see all parent tasks by the structured view then. Just set up a table view on Space level and apply a filter for assignee=current user.
Anyway it's just one click in the My To-do list to open the tasks view where you will always see the parent task beneath the current task name.
Or did I get your requirement wrong?
