Request dropdown options from array
Dear all,
I am a huge fan of Wrike and use it for multiple projects to create custom ERP type systems for large teams. I love the functionality of Wrike request forms and their ability to link data directly to custom dashboards.
One frustration I have, however, is the difficulty of population of dropdown menu options in forms, notably that the options have to be programmed manually and separately for each form. A concrete example is selecting a budget line (from hundreds) in 7 different forms, so that the task will tagged to the appropriate folder and financial data will appear in the correct place. Every time our workplan changes, I have to manually update 7 different forms. This is tedious and leads to error.
Does Wrike have a possibility to create a functionality where dropdown menu options can be pulled from an array of values stored somewhere in Wrike (in a dashboard, somewhere in the backend settings etc)? If not, could someone suggest a workaround with an easy API or integration (Google Sheets perhaps)?
Many thanks!
Kristin
Thank you Kristin Kirouac for raising the question.
As Russel has already mentioned you can currently use specially created custom fields inside request forms for both populating the set of answer options and saving the answer to a field. Please choose "use custom fields as options" for doing it.
Moreover, shortly we will launch the Datahub add-on which will allow you to keep various records/data points that are different from tasks inside tables alongside Wrike and link these tables to custom fields. Thus it will unlock the ability to store more information about every Budget line and choose Budgets via custom fields across the Wrike.
Could you please clarify if you are interested in storing just one value for every Budget line or along with additional information (e.g. departments or responsible person)?

You can create a custom field with the values you want and use that to populate the form field. It would be nice if there where other options. I would love to be able to get field data from a group of tasks.
Thanks for adding this feedback, Russell Sprague! 👍
Many thanks, Svetlana. I am looking forward to the launch of this new functionality :).
In fact, what would be helpful would be to be able to save automations as well. For example, each budget line has its own folder in a dashboard, and I program the request form so when the budget line is selected, the task is automatically saved to that folder and the financial data populates a particular custom field in the dashboard. The budget lines are the same across the whole project, which has multiple request forms depending on the type of expense. If I program the whole budget in a custom field as you suggest (great idea), I still have to manually add the automations in each form.
Thank you for expanding on your suggestion Kristin Kirouac 👍
