FAQ: Can't Create a Dependency?

Dependencies are useful when you want to show the relationship between tasks. You can set several types of dependencies based on your planning requirements. You can create any type of dependency between active tasks, but there are some limitations for creating dependencies between other status groups. If you can’t create a dependency, one of the following may be the reason:

  • If a task has a Cancelled or Deferred status, then you can't add a dependency to it.
  • If the dependencies were set up before a task was updated to have a Deferred or Cancelled status, the dependencies stay in place.
  • Completed tasks cannot be added as successors of other tasks, but it’s possible to add them as predecessors.
