Automation: Copy Custom Field Values

Create an automation to copy custom fields from one task and project to another.

If we have a project with multiple tasks that use the same custom fields, we can populate one task with the desired values. Afterwards, an automation rule can copy all of the values to the remaining tasks that have empty custom fields.

Hey Fernanda Cristina, thank you for your feedback! I'll move it to our Product Feedback forum as it seems a better space and I'll also edit the title a bit so it's easier to find, hope you don't mind!

Hey Fernanda Cristina,

Great idea!
I'm currently setting up a new space and I've discovered an almost identical problem. I wanted to automatically transfer the data of the user-defined fields into subtasks.

That would be a great simplification for me and the implementation.

Hi Fernanda Cristina!

My team would also benefit from this function as it would save us a fair bit of time.

If it helps, our current workaround for not being able to copy custom fields across tasks is:

  • Setting up an automation rule at the project/folder level,
  • Where the trigger is creation of a new task,
  • Any task created in the given location has the specified custom fields populated
