I generally take a lunch break at the same time everyday. I use my time to read the news, watch smoking and blackstone videos while I gather ideas for dinner, and research potential new destinations for my wife and I to scuba dive.
Lunch by the harbour every day...fresh air, sunshine, no screens and banter with colleagues. Really boosts your physical and emotional wellbeing!
For holiday time off, set of out of office to automatically decline any meeting requests, switch to out of office, and fly off to the beach for a rum punch and local food.
Well when I go on break I'm not really on break 100% because we are a small Business and I am HR and Office Manager and payroll needs to be run, end of the year paperwork needs to be done etc...so the laptop comes home with me. So I can stay on top of things. But when my children and grandchildren come over for Christmas and New Years, my phone is on silent and the laptop does not get turned on. I crank up the music and cook and bake. In the summer I ride my Harley and that clears my head!!!! Happy Holidays to all!!
I relax in my workshop, concentrating on manipulating wood to render a finished project. The world is at peace in the time spent there.
I'm with Maryanne Johnson. We have been watching the Hallmark Holiday movies, and I have been building random things with scrap foam core from our maker space at work. It's fun and great to build things with my hands instead of my brain for a while.
Not really a stragety so destress, but just a matter of course: Going to church and celebrating the birth of our saviour Jesus Christ!
The way I wind down and recharge is by doing what I love which is cooking and crafts! I also recharge by working out, Endorphins definitely have something to do with making you happier!
Taking a break AT work is a trip to the kitchen for a fresh mug of tea or a short walk outside.
Taking a break FROM work is turning everything off, including mobile alerts, and doing something that requires no mental energy - yard work, hiking, trivial TV.
I like to shut my computer and monitor off to remind me that it's time to be OFF! No sneaky peeks at what's happening while you're out (as long as you tried your best to tie up loose ends before leaving).
Then its cuddling with my cats, making yummy food and spending time with friends and family.
I typically make sure I don't look at work email while on my time off. I also love reading, playing board/card games with friends/family, and watching football and Hallmark movies! These all definitely help me lower stress levels!
When it's time for you to take a break at work, what strategies do you employ to unwind and recharge?
I create a document outlining open projects, points of contact, FAQs, and important tasks so my team knows what to do or who to go to while I'm enjoying R&R time (any Wrike links related to projects of course go on that list!). Outside of the office, the electronics stay in another room and I make sure to get some sunshine in by exploring local trails.
To unwind, consider practicing mindfulness meditation, engaging in regular physical exercise, and spending time in nature. Additionally, take breaks from screens for a digital detox, ensure quality sleep, and enjoy hobbies or activities you love. These strategies can help me relax, recharge, and maintain overall well-being.
When I take a break at work or am WFH, I go for a walk to a coffee shop thats a littler further away get the blood flowing and then I come back energised
Taking a brief walk - even around the building - never fails to energize me. Especially when there are holiday snacks to be sampled... Also looking forward to the occasional snowshoeing trek across a couple of local parks, when a longer break is needed...and to work off some of those snacks. 8{)
Lay on the couch watching TV/movies with my significant other!
When my Mind is full to unwind and recharge I partake in Mindfulness and Meditation: Engaging in mindfulness or meditation practices can help calm the mind, reduce stress, and promote relaxation. But nothing works better than Signing off & taking a needed Vacation from work !!!
I crochet. It is both at the same time - relaxing and challenging. You have to be present as you create.
And you get a product at the end
To switch off from work I love to go on a Hot Girl Walk® listening to an inspiring podcast.
Tie up loose ends at work, make sure those who need to know how to get ahold of me can, disable notifications and be present with my family. And when I need a break from them, I walk the dog.
We give the whole team a week off to spend time with their families.
Once to clear all urgent emails from the inbox, I may listen some music and grab some coffee, then enjoy the views outside the window. It's getting cold recently and finally get rid of the hot weather which is becoming longer these years. Enjoy the best hour of the ginkgo when the leaves begin to falling to the ground and imagin the golden path.
Book a cruise and don't buy the wifi package
Sitting at my desk all day can be really tiring so I love to unwind by taking a walk during my breaks. At night, I love de-stressing with some TV and spending time with my boyfriend.
With 11 days to go for the annual shutdown, My strategies to unwind and recharge for the 2023 Christmas break are
Digital Detox: 📵
I completely deactivate my work phone and turn off my laptop during the holidays. This allows me to be fully present with family and friends and avoid the temptation to check work emails or messages, while acknowledging that some work emergencies might still require attention.
Experiential Living: 🎁➡️🏞️
Instead of material gifts, I prioritize experiences during the holidays. This could be anything from taking a family trip to simply going for a walk in nature. Experiences create lasting memories and help me truly connect with loved ones.
Movement for Mindfulness: 🏃♀️🧘
Physical activity is a great way to relieve stress and clear my head. I try to get at least 30 minutes of exercise most days, whether it's going for a run, taking a yoga class, or playing a sport.
Hobbies, My Happy Place: 📚🎶
I make sure to set aside some time each day for my hobbies, which include reading, writing, and playing music. Doing something I enjoy helps me to relax and recharge.
Drain my laptop battery to empty and "lose" my charger ;)
Going to the Gym 4 times a week in the lunch break.
