Annoying New Link PopUp => HUGE PRODUCTIVITY KILLER

Michael Pucher That's not a recent change. URL's in the Description field have behaved like that at least since 2019. And yes, it's annoying. I find myself always clicking URL's in the Description field twice: first the line containing the URL, only to find the link popup a little lower, the having to click that one.

I understand that you don't want the link window to be popped up if moving the cursor by your keyboard over that text, because you can't go on moving the cursor futher on without closing that popup before, right?

And if you'd like to edit that link, you could still klick on it.

I never noticed that change you described, as I usually use the mouse to place my cursor, but I agree with you that this behaviour can be annoying if you prefer to work with your keyboard.

I agree with Michael that something changed recently. I was going to contact support as well. I noticed the same thing when using a table. Essentially everytime I click in a cell, I now need to hit ESC to dismiss a hover menu before I can type! Its super-weird...

Michael Pucher, I'm afraid it is not currently possible to remove the link pop-up. As a workaround, you could click hit ESC to close a hover menu as Nathan Jones suggested. Alternatively, you could click on "Remove" to make the links unclickable and change them back later if needed.

Also, you should be able to navigate through the links with keyboard arrows. Here is a short video guide. It seems that it works differently on your end, so we will send this case over to the Support Team as well.

Thanks for the tip, but that's just another complication caused by the nonstandard link implementation. It doesn't really make any difference if I have to repeat the click or remember to Ctrl/Cmd-click the link, they're both annoyances.

I don't agree that Ctrl-clicking a Link is a nonstandard. For browsers, of course, but not for editors. It's the same in Microsoft Word, for example. Ctrl-click a link to open it, simple click to edit the text.

A nonstandard is the popup menu, this can really be annoying.

Hi Florian Kislich, I don't have to Ctrl/Cmd-click a link in Word to open it. A link in the Wrike Description box, I have to first click open the popup before I'm able to click the link, or Ctrl/Cmd-click it to open it. This screen grab video doesn't show any keyboard usage, but anyway: https://vimeo.com/521302304.

thanks for sharing this video. I don't know if this behaviour is default in a specific Word version (of course it would be standard in a presenter view), but I found the following article which says that by default Word uses the Crtl-click to follow a link and how this can be changed: https://www.officetooltips.com/word_2016/tips/use_hyperlink_without_holding_ctrl.html

I think this behaviour really makes sense in an editor view. It could be quite annoying too if you want to edit the text and the link would be opened instead.
