Visualizing Job Role Effort of Bookings
FeaturedSummary
When using bookings and effort assigned to job roles, is there any way to easily visualize the total allocated effort for that job role? I would like to be able to see my team's projected workload capacity regardless of whether the booking has yet been assigned to a specific person.
Details
When our team receives a new project we will give it an approximate number of hours until we have more information. We will also assign those hours to a job role using a booking until we know the specific person that will be taking on the work.
I was hoping that by assigning a booking, with effort, to a job role that I would see the allocated effort reflected in a workload chart. However the chart doesn't capture booking effort that is assigned to job roles, it only summarizes the effort of bookings assigned to individual users.
Is there another way to get visibility of future allocated and available effort for a particular job role when assigning effort with bookings?
Hi Nick Etten, have you tried to use Backlog box?
Hey Pietro Poli, the backlog box is helpful for task-based effort once we know what the individual tasks for a project will be. However, when planning out projects for future quarters we won't yet have a detailed list of tasks to apply effort to. I believe Bookings were created with this type of use case in mind, however they don't seem to function the same way as task-based effort.
If tasks are the only way to see the aggregate effort for a job role, then we could create a task for the full effort of a project until we know more granular details. But at that point we've essentially created a booking, or a placeholder for future effort.
We're creating 1 task and putting the full ROM Effort hours estimate on it, with the job role assigned. Not using Booked Effort.
Thanks Meredith Selden. I was curious if others had taken to that solution or not.
