This seems like the right topic to voice my concerns with recurrences. I'm a new user, so I didn't have the past problems. Here are mine:

    1) When I duplicate a task that has a recurrence set, I need the duplicate to keep the recurrence rules.

    2) If I have a task that has dependencies and I make them each recurrent, I need the next and subsequent recurrences to maintain the dependencies.

    3) The sub-task one that has already been thoroughly covered in this thread.

    My use case:

We are a CPA firm. We have tasks that repeat monthly (e.g. Bookkeeping), quarterly (e.g. financial statements), annually (e.g. tax returns), and at irregular times. We have created an Active Client template that includes all of the recurring tasks with assignees and related dependencies. We want to be able to duplicate the template when we add a new client. However, when we do so, we lose the dependencies and the recurrences (and thus, the sub-tasks on subsequent occurrences as well).

We came to Wrike to be able to streamline our project flow for clients but the shortcomings in recurring tasks is a serious pain point for us. We use technology to automate and streamline our work. As it stands now, there is WAY too much custom input for setting up each client - largely due to the shortcomings in the recurrences feature.

Wrike...this is such a basic and simple request professionals are asking. We are paying $$$$$$$$$ for this platform

Why is there no feedback? why is this not happening.....this is WAY WAY WAY more imporant then better views and all the small updates you are working on. This is BASIC HARD structure.

Its the differnce between a system that works against us or a system that is actually the tool as promised.

    PLEASE

Hi all, thanks for the continued support for this request. It's something our Product Team has been paying close attention to and they have plans to review it in the future, but it's currently not on their roadmap so I have no concrete information to share at this point.

Please continue to vote and provide use-cases by commenting and I'll post back here once I have more information to share 👍

how is this not in devolpment?

This is logically, emotionaly, operationally a common sense feaure.

Re-occruent tool in current form is ineffective and creates ineffcient and unworkable workflows.

you do realize it is not usable? the entire point of re-occurent tasks is to have actions with them. in current form you have to create tasks and link to outside checklist (excell or such) that is stored on computer/dropbox/cloud.

    absoulty 1995 in a 2018 enviroment.

it took you years to get such a basic feature as re-occurent online...now its a half baked, half done, incomplete item.

we keep looking for better platforms...the only reason we stay on wrike if for the request feature. the moment anohter platform has that avabile we will move our buisness. Simply due to this one issue

how can business create the accounability, visiibilty and work systems when our PAID for partner ignores common sense.

get it togethre wrike....make your platform actually great

We just started with wirke and we can not use the recurrent function because of missing basic/logic features.

All important features were mentioned above. Wrike you should think about the priority in your roadmap!

I'll jump in here as well. For the amount of money we're paying I'm baffled that we can't make subtasks reoccur.

Not only that but we can't even use checkboxes in the parent tasks that do reoccur. Bazaar...

This is very needed in our case also! we do upward of 20 weekly recurring tasks that all require subtasks and action steps by different individuals. the ability to make a project recurrent would also be appreciated!

Hi all, I wanted to give a brief update on this and why the Status is at Backburner. This function is a very reasonable ask and something (even I) would like to see happen soon.

The Product Team is thinking about how to apply this feature, however, there is other function in the Workspace affected and these need to be looked at first before this can be undertaken. So right now this exact function isn't on the roadmap but will be reviewed in the near future. It's not possible to give an estimated timeframe right now.

Once I have an update and the how details about the product roadmap, I'll be sure to update you here and the title's status.

For now, it would be great to continue to receive, not only your use-cases but what you're doing at the moment in terms of processes and workaround. These insights serve as a big help to the Product Team and other people reading this thread 👍

    Stephen,

I appreciate your update, but it frankly doesn't make sense to me. I'm not sure what is meant by, "The Product Team is thinking about how to apply this feature, however, there is other function in the Workspace affected and these need to be looked at first before this can be undertaken." It's a pretty straightforward request/concept to make a duplicate also duplicate recurrences; conceptually, it's no different than keeping the same assignee or description. While I realize there is far more to it from a coding perspective, your explanation seems to be lacking a good excuse or reason why this isn't being considered right now.

As for a workaround, every time I add a new client - which is multiple times a month, I am personally adding the recurrences to over 30 new client tasks in our new client template. This is a ridiculous time drain, but what alternative do I and others have until you guys do something?

I urge your team to reconsider the priority on this.

    Wrike,

    I concur with Marks comments.

Why would we celebreate or promote a work around to a broken idea? simply workarounds take TIME and EFFIECENCY...isnt that why we pay for Wrike?

this is not an outlandish idea or feature.....you were well behind the curve in orginally rolling out Re-occurent, when you did it was intaially full of bugs. ...its been how long? and the product is still incomplete.

Funny thing is....you raise prices, we pay, you bill we pay. we ask for sometihng that is a normal and common feature....we get no feedback?

Does anyone else know of a product that has a request feature? maybe they will listen

Not a hater....just silly silly silly way to conduct buinsess. Your product is EXPENSIVE ....that is supposed to gain support.

    Our team needs this feature!

Many tasks in our company contain subtasks that need to be completed by 7-10 individuals. So not only do I need to recreate each subtask 10 times, and assign and date each to different people, but if I want them to be recurrent, I have to go through and apply recurrence to each task individually. Multiply that by 10-30 subtasks per parent task and... it is not good.

As a temporary solution, I would settle for the ability to mass edit and apply a reccurence to a group of tasks at the same time. But the request for subtasks to be included in the recurrence doesn't seem unreasonable.

I agree with some of the comments above that there shouldn't need to be workarounds for this feature.

I've generally enjoyed Wrike's community and feedback responsiveness, but the fact that this feature has been pretty desperately requested by people for so long and isn't in development is pretty worrying. It seems like the product feedback status should at the very least be upgraded to 'Investigating'.

Wrike, I can see almost a years worth of requests to allow sub-tasks to reoccur with the parent task. It's only doing half a job without this function so please apply the change!

best part......get a call today...your $10,000 renewal is due. Can you pay that imeeditably?

worst part.....can't swtich platfoms due to complete integration and pentration to our operation without causing significant problems.

    Call for money....Wrikes got that!

Solve resonable and affectve buisness solutions that are common sense based and match EVERY OTHER project system out there???? hold the horses....thats not important to us. But hey....you have cool "Themes now".....cause thats what we needed

The lack of sub-tasks basically makes this a useless feature. Seems like a no-brainer to prioritize this update. It's not a nice to have, it's a flaw that needs to be fixed.

I also would like to make a task recurrent and also its subtasks to be included in the recurrence.

Please make this happen as it's a time consuming task re-entering the subtasks!

Hi all! I'm a Product Manger looking after features just like the one requested here. Let me explain in a little more detail about why this sits on the Backburner right now.

Firstly, 'Backburner' status doesn't mean this will never happen. We have no doubt in the value this improvement will unlock for you and your teams. It's simply something we do not have in the immediate scope.

What complicates things is that the current mechanism for Recurrent Tasks is built in such a way that makes further improvements, like supporting subtasks as well as carrying over Custom Field values (another big one), a challenge. This means we need to review, research and likely overhaul current recurrent logic entirely. A 'quick fix' will not cut it.

I understand that this is highly requested feature and we have taken this into account when deciding on the current status. I want to thank everyone for raising your use cases, input and votes here. This information has huge value for us when we're planning our roadmap.

Once I have a more concrete update about this, our Community Team or I will be back to share this information with you.

Until then, thank you again for ideas and votes here. Please keep it up!

    Anton,

Is that the same problem I am now having with effort on the workload tab? Effort does not recur either - which also makes it mostly worthless to us because all of our tasks are set up as recurring tasks. If the effort not recurring is not going to be fixed, say, within the next 6 months, I will simply cancel the workload module that I just upgraded and start looking for another solution altogether.

    Anton,

Translation. You built a tool with out forward thinking about how it will actually work.

In usage the product is incomplete and not a good tool.

Rather than owing the issue and deploying resources....Wrike choose to make excuses and not address the issue.

I believe I can say this for most of the business operators on this community....when we make mistakes, or deliver an incomplete product to our clients, we MUST OWN that issue, and WE MUST create the solution no matter the pain points.

Good news.....starting a new company. Will migrate to a product that is willing to apply a basic tool that COMMON SENSE says is a good one, their is no argument as to the value of this conversation.

In my time with Wrike,(4 years) you have been consistent with one conversation....Clients are last. Wrike is First. A continuing B.S. answer from your organization is lackluster, hollow and simply shortsighted.  You have one of the more expensive items on the market, and its just lacking such a simple feature.

This type of no response of value matches the support I have received over the years.

Your unique business challenges are yours....I know when I tell my revenue generators (customers who pay my bills) why i cant don something. They here.....NOT MY PROBLEM, Fix YOUR dysfunction!!!!

I would ask...."Well Chris, if you are this unhappy why have you stayed with Wrike" Simple...integration in my previous company was so high with the product that unwinding was a large project and I was hoping you would get your act together.

Looking forward to seeing what the market offers.

    Wrike...you are awesome.

    Our Current Workaround:

    1. Create task with subtasks
    2. Save that task to Blueprint folders (Weekly, Monthly, Quarterly, etc)
    3. Each month go through and create task from Blueprint, you will just need to add the folder it will go into (limited to one currently). Set the launch date appropriately (key feature of using Blueprint method).

This maintains the duration of both the main task and the subtasks as well as the dependencies and assignees. Not elegant but the best we came up with until Wrike decides to provide a better solution.
