To expand on this request a bit, from my team's perspective... here's a use case:

We have a request form that allows employees to enter IT requests (e.g. hardware support, networking problems, etc.). We've set up a dashboard that allows users to see all of the their IT requests so they can quickly check the status. But at times, users are unable to enter their own requests (e.g. if their computer is experiencing problem, they may ask another user to enter a request on their behalf). Currently the dashboard is configured to filter tasks by Author.

We can certainly edit the request form to add a question mapped to a custom field, to ask "Who is this request for?" But we don't want  users to have to enter this every time they enter a request, as 95%+ of the time, it's for themselves. Instead, we'd like to make that an optional question, answered only when you are submitting a request for someone else. Then, the dashboard should both tasks that you created and tasks that were created on your behalf. The only way to accomplish this currently is to have separate widgets on the dashboard, one for tasks that you created, and another for tasks that were created on your behalf. We'd like to combine that, but there's no current way to do that.
