Public Dashboard or Signage View

My team uses Wrike to track our work because we are changing priorities on a sometimes hourly basis, while the rest of our company uses MS Project, updating only weekly or monthly and mainly focused on tracking costs. We need a way to allow more passive visibility into our workload each week without having to train our non-wrike folks on yet another tool (Wrike).

The idea we had came from the displays showing stats in our call center: a dashboard showing what we have recently completed, are working on now and later, and if we had any free time left in the work week. We want to show the basics of this info on a TV near our area (to avoid people walking up and asking non-stop) and we also want a more detailed version at a URL they can visit. The requirement is that there is only viewing available though, no need for log in or interaction. Just a quick run down.

I have been playing with reports as a possible solution for the display board, but the level of detail is either too much or too little, and this doesn't solve for the full web page dashboard view. I think the solution that will work best for us would be a web based or software tool that can pull data from Wrike and allow us to display it using a different layout. Has anyone tried this or know what tools I could use to implement this without a lot of upfront cost? I have access to hardware, plus developers and programmers that can help with the technical side, but I need a somewhat realistic plan to propose that includes basic hardware, software, and time requirements.

At this point, I am imagining a server on our LAN pulling the data needed from Wrike to a database, then pushing that to two places: a signage software tool designed for outputting basic info to a screen, and a basic web server loading the detailed data into a webpage. This would require some play time to get the info from Wrike, some time to format the data per the needs of the output programs, and a little time spent creating a format for both the screen and webpage. Any advice or input would be awesome, thanks!

Hi Jay, this is a really interesting question. There are a few different things I can think of, so going to list them here and you can let me know if any particular one jumps out as a potential solution. Then we can go into more details.

  • Reports - You mentioned these, but I think Column Reports might be an interesting solution to show on a screen, and then you could have a Table Report that goes into more details.
  • Dashboards - Dashboards are more intuitive to look at than Table Reports and can help give at least some insight you're looking to offer. You could create a Custom Widget which shows a select group of tasks and those tasks would move automatically between widgets as their status/assignee/Custom Fields change.
  • APIs - This is the most flexible option. If you have access to developers this might be the best option, you could pull that data you need from Wrike and then have it displayed in the format/page you create.

In terms of what you want to show on your dashboard, recently completed, and what is being worked on can be shown with any of the three options above. In terms of free time left in the week, I was wondering what data you would be using to show that? Were you thinking of showing the type of information visible on the Workload View?

Thanks for your reply. I will start out by creating a mockup of the board showing what data to display and where and post that here to see if it can be done without a custom solution. I made a basic version of the full dashboard site by setting up an export of data between excel and our team sharepoint site. I think that will work as long people are okay with it being updated hourly.

We are also looking exactly at the same thing. We have screens all around our office and we would like to show our teams availability to give a level of transparency to the business before they lodge a request through our wrike forms.

very keen on having a public dashboard :)

Hi Martin, thanks for chiming in here! :) It sounds like a Dashboard with Custom Widgets could potentially do the trick here. For example, a single Dashboard with separate widgets for different statuses of tasks/requests could give a quick overview of the workload. Would love to know if you've had a chance to try that out and if it works for you. :)

I am still hoping for this. I gave up on using the API as I had too many issues and too little time to devote.

We are also looking for a similar solution, we are displaying the "board view" but scaling the board doesn't look that great on the TV.Great to hear if anyone else has ideas / plugin's / API success ?
Thanks.

I am displaying dashboards (4 in total) on a TV in the entrance of our floor, along with a calendar for PTO and a simple WELCOME note using a TV and mac mini. I'd love to be able to use digital signage software to make this more seamless. Will Wrike be forming a connection to any digital signage tools in the future?

@Allison Hey, thanks for bringing that up! For now I have no updates on connecting Wrike to digital signage tools, but I'll get back to you here if I have news.
