[Status: Launched ๐Ÿš€] Showing subtasks in Dashboard when also on parent task

Hey, just a quick question: I note that whenemver I'm on both a parent and its subtasks only the parent task shows up in my custom dashboards and I can't seem to find an option to "include subfolders" or what have you on current dashboards. Is that something I can add to my current ones or can be implemented in replacement dashboards? Thanks!

Thank you for your support Tommy Loughran! I've checked with the team - the status remains the same here for now. I'll continue to pass on the feedback from this thread and the vote count to our Product team and if anything changes in their plans regarding this request, I'll make sure to let you know.ย

Following as I have the sample problem.ย  Will see if I can filter out a solution.ย  Looking for a dashboard or view to show subtasks outside of parent tasks and arranged by the due date.

Hello Jamie Letzig, thanks for posting! May I ask if you've considered using the Table View with By Due date sorting and the option to Expand All?

It will still show the parent tasks but will also automatically list the subtasks underneath them without the need for you to click on anything to show the subtasks.ย

Please let me know if this helps for now ๐Ÿ™‹๐Ÿปโ€โ™€๏ธ

I know how to solve this issue form myself in a dashboard (have a widget with only today's tasks). But a lot of my colleagues prefer to use the My To-do list. This is a big problem with parent tasks that have the same assignee as the subtask(s). Especially in the situations where we prefer to have a milestone parent task: the task will appear in My To-do on the day the work has to be finished... :-(.

I cannot find this issue with My To-do and subtasks on the forum. This one about dashboards is clearly related.

ย

update: In the meantime, I found the My To-do setting 'task list display' (plain/hierarchical), which solves this issue for us.

I cannot see, that Karen's workaroud is a "solution" in any way. For me its not logical to not-show due subtasks in the dashboard...

Agree, Heinrich.ย  Our company uses Dashboards extensively, and this quirk makes it extremely difficult to train employees - ultimately, it causes people to miss tasks and deadlines, and when that happens, users quit using it.ย  To me, the thing that sets Wrike apart from its competition is the ability to use the forms builder to create projects and tasks.ย  As soon as Asana or other comes out with this, we will probably make the switch to them because of the sub-task issue.

I discovered Notion which is amazing for personal task management, I believe it's far from my use case for professional needs...but they just introduced sub-items and I realized they have this issue has well...which they've already solved by allow the person designing the view to "turn off sub-items" on a certain view and then the overdue items show up.

Thanks Lena. It's truly amazing how simple a fix this should be. Please Wrike, throw it into a dev sprint to solve quickly like Lena has suggested

Just stopping by to remind Wrike that we are still waiting for this as well. It still drives us crazy. We're paying $1000 a seat per year and it just doesn't feel like we're being listened to.

Travis Premoย

This issue was so severe when we discovered it during the evaluation and it almost took Wrike out of the running, luckily for Wrike it does other things well enough that they got our business but it does impact my team's ability to stay on track with their projects....which is a fundamental purpose of the product!ย

Prioritization is tough but would be good to hear an update as to where this is at in the prioritization for 2023 releases

Adding my support to this suggestion. I need a list of everything with a due date, sorted by due date. Otherwise I can manage my tasks more effectively on paper.

This is a major issue and it needs to be fixed ASAP. I'm shocked it's not on the roadmap.

If the same team member is an assignee on both Parent Task & Sub-task, they never see the due date for the sub-task in their to-do list.. only the due date for the parent task, which can be weeks apart!! This is broken at its core!

My team missed so many deadlines because of this broken logic in dude dates. And at first, we couldn't even understand why that was happening. Now we know. But it's no help, cause there is no viable workaround.

Of course you could create 5 separate tasks instead of subtasks, but then there is no way to group them within your project structure to indicate they all are part of the same task/deliverable.. :(ย

This needs to be fixed ASAP. As our company is new the Wrike (less than 3 months) this has become an issue with missing due dates. Can Wrike provide some type of solution? Our team likes the option for subtask as they receive due dates but what is the benefit to having them if you aren't alerted when a task is due.ย

Impatiently waiting on a fix :)

Thank you!

It seems really weird that with 119 upvotes and over 6 years of people begging for this to be addressed, it is still... not planned. Why not? What does it take to get on the product roadmap? This seems a whole lot more like a bug fix request than a feature request. I would appreciate it if other people who feel the same way would chime in. This has been a thorn in my entire team's side for years now.

Hey Alex Weinstein.ย  I feel your pain.ย  We almost didn't purchase Wrike for this reason, but because our main priority is project due date, not task due date, we've been able to get by.ย  That being said, I find it incomprehensible that this is not treated with a higher priority.ย  For example, the people wanting dark mode will likely get it before this bug is fixed!

I'd ask Lisa to explain the reasoning behind Wrike not prioritizing something so fundamental to their core functions.ย

Lena I wish we learnt about this issue before we purchased it. My team is suffering so much with all the workarounds. If only I knew it was the case, we wouldn't have signed our contract with Wrike. This broken core function neglects all the other benefits Wrike has compared to Asana or Monday... I'm still shocked this is not a priority and feel trapped :(ย  if they don't fix it soon or at least, put it on the roadmap, we might just reconsider our contract renewal and opt out for something else.

Thanks for sharing, Anna Urazova.ย  I feel your pain as we were far along down the path of our evaluation when we discovered it.ย  Another team is using Asana at my company and, while I cannot make any quick moves, you can be sure we will be opening an evaluation!ย  I have found Wrike to be a decent partner, and it has a lot of cool features that help my team to be successful, but if Asana has comparable features and doesn't have this same issue with tasks....well you get the idea!

Hey everyone!
I understand it can be frustrating to see some of the suggestions, especially those that were created a while back and have many upvotes, not being developed in Wrike. I'd like to shed some light on how this forum operates to provide you with more information.

The forum works based on votes and statuses, but it's important to note that Wrike can't guarantee the implementation of all or even most of the suggestions. While our Product team would love to work on the majority of the great suggestions our users share, it's not always feasible. Sometimes, user suggestions may conflict with the needs of others, or adding new functionality may require resources that we currently don't have available. Additionally, there are ideas and enhancements in the pipeline that haven't been posted yet but are known to benefit the product's evolution.

That being said, we truly value all the feedback we receive, and that's precisely why we have this forum and the processes mentioned above. We carefully track and report on all data, as well as request status updates. Your ideas and concerns are regularly shared and discussed with the Product Managers at Wrike.

Our team strives to allocate some of our resources to customer-generated suggestions. As an example, you can check out this post where we highlight some of the suggestions released last year that were generated by the community. At the beginning of each year, we create wrap-up posts to showcase all the user ideas that have been implemented.

I hope this provides you with more context on how we work with feedback from the Community. If there's anything else I can assist you with, please let me know. And thank you again for keeping your feedback coming!ย

Lisa, we are all very frustrated here because this is not a nice-to-have suggestion like colored labels or additional custom fields in a table view. This is core functionality that is broken and not working! Task or sub-task.. I should be able to clearly see all the due dates in the To-do dashboard or at least in a custom report.ย

Your answer sounds like that one on the answering machine "Your call is very important to us".. and tells me that this is not going to be fixed for another 5 years.

Hi Lisa.ย  To echo Anna Urazova, you explained the process of how the forum and upvoting works but when I tagged you I was hoping for an answer to my question stated above and copied here "explain the reasoning behind Wrike not prioritizing something so fundamental to their core functions."ย  This is not a "customer-generated suggestion" but a failure of the product to execute its core function of task management.ย ย

Should we take away from your response that Wrike's opinion of this thread is that this is a "customer-generated suggestion" and the Product Managers do not agree that it is a serious product gap?ย

Without a deeper response from Wrike, we can only conclude that this is not seen as a serious product gap which is the most concerning conclusion of all.

I am going to bump this up again and echo what the others are saying.ย  This is core functionality of the product that leans more towards a bug than a feature request.ย  I believe this issue is actually even larger than properly displaying of subtasks that are due in the My to Do list.ย  If we turn to the Agile side of the product and think about a Scrum team, you can not even control the subtasks from the board view as you should be able to do using a Scrum board.ย  You have to move the entire parent task (lets call it the User Story) to the next status in the workflow, even if the subtasks (the Story tasks) are not ready to be moved.ย  It is all tied together.ย  The subtasks will keep their current workflow status.ย  However, from the board view, it appears that everything under the Parent task (the User Story) has moved into that single workflow status.ย  This is not the case in competing products, where the parent (user story task) remains in the current status (Working On, In Progress, etc) and the tasks show in the appropriate workflow column on the board (in the same lane as the Parent task).ย  Wrike treats all tasks as tasks and that within itself is an issue.ย  It leaves the customer having to try to circumvent the tool to make it work how it should for Project Management.ย  We appreciate Wrike, but there is core functionality that needs to be addressed and it should not take years to do that.ย  Lack of resources can be used as a reason for delay across all of our organizations.ย  But when the product costs substantially more than competitors that can deliver the missing pieces, then it leaves the customer questioning their investment in the product.

Let me know if this needs to be submitted by a product feedback request, however I have hard time believing that it has not already been requested prior to this post.

Hello everyone, thank you very much for sharing your cases and for supporting this post. I have passed your feedback on to our Product Team and please rest assured that we will keep you informed in case there are any changes.ย

I understand this is an important feature for you and your teams and that you find it frustrating that it has not been implemented yet. Our Team is aware of the popularity of this idea and all your feedback has been noted.

At the moment, this behavior in Dashboard is expected and not considered a bug, but I do understand that you don't find it ideal. I've outlined this to our Team when passing your comments to them.

We're looking to move to ClickUp for this exact reason. Not just this problematic functionality, but the extreme delay in acknowledging and solving this issue that is critical to many of our workflows.
