Changing default task durations
In our organization, we rarely have tasks that require an entire day of work. The majority of tasks take between 30 minutes and 4 hours. It would be much more useful, therefore to be able to change the default task duration to intervals other than the current 1 day. That way, when someone created a task, they wouldn't have to go through the hassle of clicking down into the calendar settings to adjust each task manually.
I agree, and would also love if the fields where you currently adjust duration worked better. It is simply too much trouble to change the duration to less than a day, and I haven't seen any payoff by doing it, so I usually just make one day tasks. It is far too difficult to schedule out x hours worth of tasks during the week.
That's actually something that you can change already! If you click on Profile and scroll down to the bottom, you'll see "Default Date for New Task". You can set new tasks to default as backlogged or due that day, and you can set a duration.
Hmm. In that case, maybe this is bug fix request. I've done that, but it only seems to work if I create a generic task from the List or Table view. It doesn't work when I create a task from Board view or when shift-clicking to add tasks on specific dates with Timeline view.
Hi everyone, great discussion here! @Colin, you can set a default task type and duration in your Profile settings, and then all tasks will be created with that duration applied (you can always adjust it later).
Would this help?
Hi everyone, I have got the same concern and I do not think that changing the task duration in the profile settings is the solution.
Lets take an example :
I had planned the task : ''writing the report '' between the 15th of august and the 30 of August (meaning 15 days period inlcluding we). The time duration planned to do this task and to write the report (it is also what i billed to client) is 30 hours. meaning 30 hours spread other 15 days.
I can monitor the time spent (e. g. 10 hours so far) but it appears impossible to compared time spent over the time planned (10/30=33%) and to know the task completion rate that is is one of the main efficiency citeria we use.
Maybe i missed something ..I am a new wrike's user (testing period).
Thanks , Nicolas
Hi Anastasia,
Thank you for your comment. I've adjusted the default task duration in my profile settings, but when I add new tasks from timeline view, the default duration does not respect my profile settings. That is to say, although I have set the default duration to 1 hour, when I create new tasks from timeline view they continue to register as 1 day by default, and I have to manually adjust them to 1 hour.
Thanks again for your attention to this bug.
Cheers,
Colin
Colin, just created a Support ticket for you so we could clarify what the logic here is. Look out for an email! :)
the default duration no longer works on tasks created from forwarded emails. It used to but it stopped working along the way and I just tried it and tried but can't get it to work. Seems to work on a fresh task I manually create.
Hi Kari, I've requested the Support Team look into this for you. You'll receive an email soon 👍
thanks so much! it will be fantastic to have it working again since most of my tasks I create through email.
