[Status: Not planned] Getting notes to show on reports

I use the description field on each task to keep track of what I am doing for that particular item.  Meaning, if I have to make multiple calls or send several emails to accomplish something, I will add whatever notes I have to this field.  It is easy to use and easy to view when you open the task.  With that being said, I have superiors who do not use Wrike and want updates on my projects.  This means they cannot click on a task to view my notes.  The only option available at this time is to create a custom text field.  This is not a user friendly field when notes can be quite substantial and requires additional clicking to get to when inside a task, but it will print in totality when I add this field to my reports.  This allows my superiors to view my notes, but makes my daily updates harder.  I either have to 1) click into the tiny field and scroll through or 2) I have to update two sections where all of my notes are in the description and only the most recent update summary is listed in the custom field.

It was explained to me that the description may not be possible to add as a selection to the report filters because it allows for different items to be added other than text.  I am looking for a viable solution since 1 and 2 listed above are not acceptable.

At the very least, please make it so that whatever is in the description can be pulled as simple text for reports. This is a super basic need that's clearly been requested for years.

Don't have much hope it will make into a release after 5 years, but here's another updoot for the request.

I have been a Wrike user for about 7 years between 2 companies now. At my current location, we wanted to standardize how our meetings were conducted and captured so we created a blueprint for running and documenting meetings. A recurring task is created from the blueprint for all of our projects. The project teams meet weekly and capture all of their action items and updates in these recurring tasks. The issue is, that there is no way to communicate this directly from Wrike. Rather than having an automated report set up to send to the stakeholders & team members that shows all of the meeting notes, the project team then needs to copy the description into a Word document with the previous weeks of meeting notes, create a new email, add in all of the stakeholders & team members and send the document.

This is a hugely inefficient process.  Not only is it a duplicate effort, but this process makes it more time-consuming and difficult for team members to be able to check on the status of a project and additional action items.

Using collaborator licenses is not an option because for each project there could be 20+ users that would need access, and there are multiple active projects at any given time. With the limited number of collaborator licenses available to us, this is not a viable solution.

While the custom field option would work for the reporting issue, making a custom field for each of these would be incredibly inefficient for adding and viewing the data in Wrike itself since only a limited number of characters are visible, and no formatting is available. This means we wouldn't be able to make check box lists to mark tasks/action items as complete.

Using custom fields would be fixing one problem and creating a much larger one.

Since it doesn't appear that the team will be adding the description to reports or widgets anytime soon, are there any other workarounds for a situation like ours?

Hello Ashley Fischer, thank you for sharing your use case with us. Do I understand correctly that the issue you are encountering is that you haven't found an efficient way to share all the action items captured in your recurrent tasks with people outside Wrike?

If that is the case, the options you have mentioned would be the ones available at the moment. I understand why this is not ideal for you and your team and we continue to pass your feedback on to our Product Team. We will keep you updated in case there are any changes implemented.

Plesae, let us know if you have any additional questions. Thank you!

Guys we like to do effort burn down analysis with executive stakeholders of our CLIENTS. we don't have time to sit around and parse notes inside the apps for these kinds of meetings. We need the ability to export the description and then work with these notes to prepare for those meetings. As a workround, I need a report that just lists all tasks, with the ID and the description so I can join them in an external APP and work with them to format for meetings. Expecting everyone to work inside the app is ludicrous, and if you think this is gating people to licenses - you are wrong. If we don't get an improvement in the overall reporting workflow, I can see us looking at other solutions as we grow this year.

It's surprising that Wrike has not yet implemented this basic functionality, especially considering users have been requesting it for the past 8 years. It would be fantastic to see Wrike rise to the occasion and introduce this as a field in their reports, meeting the needs of their dedicated user base.

Adding my vote to the pile. My leader is livid that he has to click into each project to see description. If you're not going to add it to reports, at least add it as an option for "fields" in the dashboard view so we could at least export from there! Seemed to be possible in the past too, but not anymore. Cannot believe this feature still isn't on the roadmap after 8 years!
