Feature Request: Tiered Sorting of Tasks
I would like to see Wrike include the ability to select more than one sorting option to achieve tiered sorting. For example, I would like to create a widget for my dashboard that could be initially sorted by date, then sorted by priority within those dates. So, if I'm looking at a list of tasks all due today from various projects, I want to then be able to order them according to which tasks I need to do first that day.
I realize that sorting by priority allows me to order tasks any way I like (e.g. by date), but I like the date sorting feature within a widget that allows me to collapse a group (today, next week, month, etc.) and narrow my focus on one group of due dates. I cannot do that if I'm only using priority sorting.
It also doesn't seem likely that numbering my tasks would solve this issue since my widget is an overview of all tasks from different projects that are due the same date.
Hi Amy, welcome to the forums :) I can definitely see how that would be valuable (I'm a big fan of organizing and sorting in general). We'll direct other users here if they have similar requests.
Just in case someone who is on a Business/Enterprise account reads this, one potential workaround is to use Custom Fields. You could add a field named "Priority", then assign a value there. You could then run a Report, add "Due Date" as a grouping, and include the priority Custom Field.
I agree with Amy. We work VA's that are not in out office and I want to be able to look at their dashboard and prioritize their work for the day as they do not know which task is more important than another.
Louise, thank you for commenting here! Something I wanted to mention is that it's possible to manually prioritize tasks by dragging and dropping them when sorting by priority is enabled. This same order is then displayed to all users in the account:
This view can be added to the Dashboard as a separate widget, and you can continue manually priotizing tasks within this widget:

I would like to take this a step further and be able to sort my tasks (in my work or dashboard view) by the date they were submitted. If I have 15 tasks due today, I'd like to sort them by when they were created so that the first request gets completed first. Alphanumeric sorting is putting some projects and tasks at a disadvantage.
Hi Laura, thank you for sharing your thoughts about this here and in another post! It's an interesting point and I appreciate the example you've provided.
It’s interesting to see how the date is a major data for managing tasks and projects. After the title of the task, I would consider the date as the second most important data. That said, this data should be sortable as much as one’s needs. In my case, users need to see when they have to start the their individual tasks but my needs are to see when task are due. For every new user, it is alwas the same discussion on what the sorting by date mean really (by end date), and I always have the same answer from them, why?
So I guess the date sorting is not a feature that should be provided hard coded from the developer. I would consider this feature as important as the date data itself is. Naturally, two levels of sorting would be a great feature too.
There has to be a better option than alphanumeric, where I have to 01., 02., 03. and so on. Please give us option beyond alphanumeric. I understand I can go sort things by priority but still have to fight the alphanumeric preset.
I agree that being able to sort tasks by date and then priority would be very helpful. The drag and drop tool would probably be the easiest feature to add to the sort "By Date" option. If one could simply move tasks around within a given date range (i.e. Today), one could arrange them by order of importance and rearrange them as the day goes on.
Being able to sort a list or dashboard by 2 (or more) fields is essential. As noted in the above example, by due date and priority, for example. I find the inability to sort by more than one field to be beyond frustrating.
