[Status: Launched ๐] available in New Table View (Wrike Labs)] Custom sort order - Folders
Does anyone know a way to custom sort my folders? ย The default order is alphabetical, but if I have the following folders, they are not in the order of execution:
- Delivery
- Prototypes
- Production
- Quotations
The only way I can get around the automatic sorting is to use number prefixes, i.e.
- 1 Quotations
- 2 Prototypes
- 3 Production
- 4 Delivery
Thanks!
Hi everyone, Joshua Courtney, and Ben Buck, we have recently released our New Table View where you can use drag and drop to organize your folders as well as a priority sort function that works with folders/projects now. May I ask if you have tried using it? You can find more information about the New Table View and how to enable it here.ย
So I tried the Table View, and I still can't reorder my folders. ย I can drag and drop a folder *inside* another folder, but there is no option to drop the folder *between* other folders, like there is with tasks. ย Am I doing something wrong?
Hi Kevin Landel, may I ask if you are trying this on a Space level or project/folder?ย
This was in a project. ย
In the list view, and I was able to make folders with tasks and nested folders with tasks. ย Tasks can be dragged and dropped to reorder them according to priority. ย Folders cannot. ย
Same with the table view. ย Same with the Gantt view.
I submitted a help request, and have been contacted by someone from Wrike, who said the problem was my environment was running on an older release (?). ย Which is weird because I'm using the web/cloud version. ย In any case he said he upgraded my environment and it should work now.
It doesn't.
ย
Update: ย It works!! ย (Special shout-out and thanks! toย Zach S. from the Wrike team on this!)

Hi Kevin Landel, great to hear that!
So many people requesting this from 2017 and not implemented yet, terrible. Well, on to Asana I guess...
Hey folks, I've changed the status here slightly so that it's more clear to everyone reading this thread - the ability to sort folders and projects by priority (= manually) is currently available in the New Table View. Because the view is still in Labs, we aren't putting the "Launched" status here yet. Please consider trying the New Table View and share your feedback ๐

Hi Lisa, I think that having a view with the ability to sort folders is only a partial solution to the problem, at best. The original issue stems from the fact we can't sort folders within the left-side menu / folder tree.
Thanks Lisa. The new table view is great... except... then when we switch to Gantt view for example, the sequence of projects and folders goes back to alphabetic! This change from the expected view could quite likely contribute to human errors of omission or similar because the information will not be present where the reader expects "Oh I thought I had something in the 2nd row there, but now I don't see it so guess I must have been mistaken" Or similar, you get the idea. This is half fixed at best.
Our current plan to workaround is either to put extraneous numbers or letters at the beginning of every project and folder name (which is annoying especially when you start wanting to resequence things) or not use projects and folders at all... just put everything down at the task, subtask etc level where they can actually be sequenced manually, consistently. However there may be a downside to this that we haven't considered. Does anyone have any comments on either of these 2 workarounds?
Also, at least for us, manually sorting folders and projects in the table doesn't seem to work. Is there some trick to it? When I grab on to the dots on the far left of the object and try to move it, folders and projects won't move.
Thank you for your additional feedback here, folks!
Matt Battistel I've asked our Support team to look into this for you ๐

Agree with the idea that after 5 years of this request, it's sad that this is still not an option.ย I like to sort my projects by due date (with the date first in the project name) so I don't have to open them to see the due date and can just look at the general view.ย Now my 2-24 project is listed before my 2-3 project.ย We're still new to Wrike, but it seems like a no-brainer to be able to manually pull files into a different order.
Thank you for sharing your feedback here Darcy Burnside, and welcome to the Community!ย

Hi,
Will it be possible to reorder projects and folders in the left-side menu? We've tried the new table view, but we must admit that we mostly use the left-side menu to navigate our spaces. Most of our users expect to be able to reorder projects like they do with files on their laptop.
Thanks!
Hey Marie-Pier Couture, at the moment it's possible to reorder projects and folders in the "Pinned" section of the left-side menu. Can this be helpful?ย

I want to chime in and add my strong support to this feature request. Only allowing for alphanumerical organization in folders is very frustrating. It means I have to rely on longer naming conventions to organize my projects into the groups or phases needed. It may not seem like a big deal to add a number, but it is inefficient and adds word clutter to an already word-cluttered platform.
I should be able to drag and drop folders in any order I need, to best organize my projects. Your biggest competitors, Monday.com and Asana offer this functionality. You need to offer it to keep up with them. And it seems like your users have been asking for this for a long time.
Response?
