[Status: Launched! ๐] Project Status Automation
It would be so wonderful if the project status (green, yellow, red...) could be automated.ย Example - Once all the tasks & subtasks are marked complete the project owner received an inbox message that all tasks are completed and the project was changed to complete.ย Same thing if due dates are overdue then overall project status automatically changes to yellow.ย Even better would be if I, as the admin, could program the workflow to say if x % of tasks are lagging then overall project status changes to yellow or red.
I think this would be a great addition to projects. I had asked for a similar feature, but was told that typically the Project Manager that would be handling the project would input these manually as part of their tasks as the project manager. However, as a smaller team where I am managing a team with multiple projects rather than focused on only a few projects it would be beneficial to haveย transparency into each project in this way.ย
Hi Andrea and Jennifer, thanks for posting this idea.ย A step in the right directionย was when we rolled out theย auto-assign based on Statusย functionality, late last year.
I know it's not exactly the same as the request here but it's a similar automation logic. Automation is something our Product Team is regularly discussing internally and we love hearing cool automation ideas like this here. We'll bring it to the attention of our Product Team, if there's an update we'll be in touch here ๐
This would be a great addition.ย When managing a programme of multiple projects, a status that automatically changes over time depending on due dates would be very useful.ย Yes a project managerย could update manually, but when busy this feature would highlight areas that are slipping.
ย
This would be HUGE for us. When we are running our reports to look for completed workflows through the API, we have to manually change the status to all completed workflows to completed for the reporting to sync properly. It would be great if this was an automated process instead of a manual one.ย
ย
Even if it didn't change to yellow or red status automatically, being able to change to COMPLETED when all tasks are complete would be huge!
for our setup, all we need to know is whether a milestone will be missed. As tasks get delayed, that causes delays in other dependent tasks. When tasks shift down the timeline and pass the milestone, a teeny tiny red line shows up indicating that the dependency is conflicting. Wrike often knows this several months ahead (as it automatically changes the dependency line to red), but I don't always see that tiny change. All I would need is for that to translate to some bigger message. something that tells me we're not on track to meet that milestone. Changing the status of the project would be one way to indicate that, but there could also be a dashboard widget, or anything else you brilliant people could come up with
ย
Thanks!
We would love to have this functionality as well.ย Even simple automation that if a task is overdue we could change the status to red or yellow so that it flags the Operations team to investigate what's going on.ย With so many projects it's very hard to easily distinguish which might be in trouble.
So is this feature available now or in near future? That is : Any task or subtask if not yet completed then project or folder's status changes automatically.ย ย Statuses could roll up from bottom most subtasks -> Tasks -> Folder ->ย Project.ย ย If even a single task is pending it will be Yellow (with some condition).ย ย If due date has passed then it will be Red.
ย
Fully agree, another very important feature most of us would appreciate. up.
Hi all, we appreciate this valuable feedback and the use-cases help the discussions among our Product Team when reviewing this feature.
Once I have an update from the team, I'll be sure to update you here. For now, keep voting for the original post here and comment with your input so we better understand the popularity of this request ๐

I'm looking to create a batch of tasks based on the change of project status as well. Once we have Project Statuses, that would be REALLY helpful.ย
For example, if we're using Wrike to manage our Events, and we go from a project status of
Potential Event to Event Accepted
It would be great to populate a batch of tasks related to budgeting, contract signing, gathering speakers, etc. Wrike's automation is really lacking, and there's a lot of manual steps that need to be done all of the time. This would be a big help, compared to drag and dropping from template folders all of the time.ย
This would be very useful for us as our projects have several tasks and it's a pain to have to update the status twice (once for the project and one for the task)
With the upcoming custom statuses, would be great to see this right behind.ย Even an option to close the project when all tasks are done, which is well executed in Clubhouse:
This is a slightly different hierarchy as Clubhouse has a concept of "Milestone" which groups Epics, but the point is when moving the larger body of work to done, you have a chance for some type of automatic closure of the child issues/tasks.ย ย
Very much hoping you guys bring this to production soon!
Thanks!
We LOVE that we can now use Custom Project Statuses to have better visibility of all projects - but have quickly realized our team doesn't prefer having to keep up with updates on the Project Status. We haven't been utilizing Project Status before now since it wasn't customizable (and thus, confusing) and now we're having trouble trying to implement it since it seems impossible to keep up with.
Hi everyone! With the release of Wrike's Automation engine,it's now possible to automate project statuses, for example, by using the "All subproject or task status change to" rule and the "Change project status to" action. I'll therefore change the status here to "Launched". Please let me know if you have any questions/feedback ๐
