Changing workflow category should be allowed

It should be effortless to move a workflow state from one column to another (e.g. between Active and Deferred). Today you have to create a new state in the other column and painstakingly move all the tasks to the new state.  There is no good reason this couldn't be effortlessly done by dragging the workflow from one column to another, making this a 5 second job,.

Here's one example why we might want this:  We have a work-in-progress status for tasks that have predecessor dependencies that are not yet satisfied, so as a result the task is not yet actionable at this time. We call this "Not Ready". This is useful to call out tasks which will become workable on the future.

We are exploring whether this should be an "Active" column state in the workflow, which would cause this state to show up on Active tasks, or whether it should be a Deferred column task. Today, exploring those differences causes a lot of work, when it could be a 5 second job. I envision many other examples like this, such as a state where you are waiting on a 3rd party, which in the same way might be Active or might be Deferred.

I really appreciate you taking the time to explain your use case and providing such detailed feedback!

I would suggest trying the Board view as a workaround. It allows you to drag and drop items into different status groups. Let me know if this might be helpful for you. Thanks! 🙂
