Automation for description

Hello,

An automation would be very helpful what copy and update main project's description into subitem's description field.

Hi Zoltan Komaromy welcome to the Community! May I please kindly ask you to elaborate a bit more on your request so we can better understand your case? Currently, it is possible to automatically create subitems or subitems from blueprints via automation rules. Is this something similar to what you are trying to achieve?

Looking forward to your reply!

Hi Juna,

I have Production blueprint project what contains few tasks (designing, manufacturing, packaging etc).

I would like to write the details (size, printing colors, qty etc) into the main project's description and it should copy into every tasks' description.

Why it would be good?

Because every department check their assigned task (for example packaging) only and would know the details about project.

At this moment they had to open the main project for infos.

I hope you understand my opinion.

Hi Mike, thank you for the additional details! A workaround for this would be to create a Text type custom field called "Description" or similar, include the relevant data into the field and then copy this information to the tasks by dragging the corresponding cell in the New Table View.

Would this be an option for you? If you have any additional questions, please let us know 👍

Hey, Zoltan Komaromy

In our account, we created the projects and tasks from requests forms and we included all the details. Based on this new item, I used this automation:

Select a folder > Other - New item > Do this - duplicate with subitem

Using this steps, you can select what you can copy for subitem.

I work in portuguese Wrike version, but I hope this idea helped you.

I also need this, it's a pain to input project details into 20 tasks within a project, and let's say the details need updated. Now we have to update 20 tasks descriptions.

Welcome to the Community, Cade Gaede! 🎉

Thank you for your feedback. Were you able to try any of the workarounds provided above? Just to reiterate:

You can use a Text type custom field like "Description" to input your data and easily copy it across tasks by using the drag fill feature in the New Table View.

Alternatively, when creating projects and tasks from request forms, you can use the automation: Apply rule to: Select the Item Type and Location -> Trigger - New item is created -> Action - Duplicate as subitem. This allows you to choose what details to copy for subitems.

Please let me know which option works best for you. Thank you!
