Releases-New Timeline, Timelog, and Big Changes
Feature Updates

New Timeline Released
- We don't want to say it's the biggest change to Timeline since Timeline came out, but..the new version of the Timeline is out of Labs and in everyone's Workspace!
- Speaking of new Timeline, you can change a task's assignee and status from the table half of the view.

Timelog Entry Comments
- Before: If you started typing a comment in the "Add entry" pop-up and then switched to a different task/view, the comment wouldn't save. Now it will.
Any ideas as to when we'd get the share a timeline feature back? This was a useful feature, but looks like the latest doesn't support this.
@Sung The team knows that that feature is important and it's on their roadmap to add it back to the new version of the timeline. I don't have a timeline that I can share yet, but as soon as the functionality is released, you'll see it here.
We also used the Share functionality often with our clients and it is a big reason why we chose to go with Wrike.
Hopefully, it will be released soon.
Hi guys,
I agree with Amy and Sung. Besides the Share functionality, we are also desperately missing the Print / Export option to include the selected timeline into a ppt or any other format.
I really hope for a release to follow soon.
Our company heavily uses Wrike and reconciles the time log WEEKLY to payroll. We do anticipate minimizing the number of ongoing tasks by utilizing your new category feature and I like that admin can update this field on behalf of other user's entries from the new timelog feature. This will be useful for coding prior to export. The following improvements would be monumental to improve our weekly process as it would save us at least 1.5 hours per week in coding for accounting: (1) Make timelog view filtered stick upon refresh. (2) Allow for custom fields to be a filter on the new timelog (3) allow the administrator to select the custom fields for all tasks at a folder level.
@Brandy Hi! 👋 Going to go through your points 1 at a time.
2) Keeley made a request for Custom Fields in Timelog Reports. That might be an interesting one for you to +1.
3) Wanted a tiny bit of clarification. You would like an admin to be able to fill in the same value for a Custom Field for all tasks in a Folder/Project?
Thanks, Stephanie!
Yes, I would like an admin to have the option to automatically fill in the same value of a Custom Field for all tasks within a Folder/Project. Individual employees can't know how accounting needs to code their time and it's not a productive use of time for an accounting. If there's a better way to do this than custom fields, I'm game! If someone knows a trick about Excel functions for an exported Timelog that we haven't found, I'd be interested as well.
We aren't able to easily roll up weekly time to an appropriate classification level. When custom fields were introduced, we thought this was the key to what was missing on timelogs. When I created and assigned custom fields at the folder level, I thought the field would trickle down to the tasks or ask if I wanted that. However, the custom field is only at the folder level and no level beyond that unless I've individually set it on each task.
Departments, Projects and Programs are the first levels of organization in grant permissions and summarizing time. I want admin to control how time rolls up, generally to the 2nd level but not always. I don't want managers/users fooling with custom fields at all. Sometimes a folder needs to be based on a department, where others may need to be on a named project.. or a smaller department handles 2 major functions (Admin encompassing Accounting and HR) that I still want to classify separately where another department is large enough to support it's smallest incremental unit (Marketing).
Either way, as with the security settings either inheriting permissions or not, I thought custom fields would have the option to trickle down or not with an interrupting pattern at a custom juncture.
The ability to roll timelogs up to a different, single Parent Folder than where it's displayed would be just as useful or more.
@Brandy I hope you had a great weekend! First thing, I don't think this will solve your problems because there isn't roll-up functionality, but we did recently add timelog categories to Labs. Could you take a look and see if that's maybe a step in the right direction? If it is, it would be great to have you create a Product Feedback post about the changes you would need to make it functional for your team. Since that feature is in Labs right now, this is a great time to give feedback!
I don't necessarily have a trick, but trying to see if there's a way to make the duplication functionality work. When you duplicate a Folder/Project you can duplicate with Custom Field values. What if you created a template Folder with tasks with the appropriate values filled in. You could title tasks something like "Draft" and have people take over those tasks as they need them - rename them, fill in any other necessary information, but they won't have to worry about the field. Let me know what you think about that! We can keep brainstorming if you think there's something there.
@Stephanie Thanks for your input. I've always been really impressed with the seriousness in which Wrike takes feedback. We've been using Wrike for 5+ years and it's overall been an excellent experience.
I did give Categories a shot and I posted my feedback to the categories Labs prior to turning to the community posts. It'd be a step in the right direction (as in it's listed on the timelog) if it weren't for the fact users needed to add an additional flag to each time entry. I wised up about the request and added that to this thread.
I can go into the template folders and fill in these custom fields for template related tasks, but that is only a fraction of our tasks. Users have the ability to create new tasks in existing folders. It's these types of tasks I'm trying to capture by having some default custom field selections flagged on.
@Brandy Wow, awesome to hear it's been five years! That totally makes sense, if I think of any other option I'll post it here, but in the meantime, your feedback is definitely recorded for our Product Team.
Our company also relies heavily on the Timeline "Share" function to provide to our customers. It is a vital part of our communication process and we are really hoping this will be added back soon! Any updates on this?? Thanks!
@Tasia I don't have a date yet, but it's on the team's short-term roadmap and we're making sure to continue bringing it up because we know how important it is.
Hi,
Well unfortunately I have to say that I am really disappointed that Hours Fractional was removed from timelog. I do not understand why? There is even no option to turn it on again and in Timelog report also there is no such opportunity. We need timelogs to do invoicing and calculate hours spent multiply by hourly rate of our employees and now we need to convert it into decimal data - for me it is one more additional step to finish my job which waste of time. Could you add back Hours fractional at least as option in report or in timelog view?
More over you add some categories which I do not get it. To do invoicing I need data from custom fields and to do it I need to merge 2 different reports to have final data - what is so difficult to enable custom fields in timelog view or in timelog report?!?!? I do not get it.
I would be very grateful to take a look at this problem and solve it as soon as possible!
We'll also be looking for the formula to add the decimal back to the exported file for accounting.
Still wanting the custom fields added, too.
Hi guys, thanks for your input We've passed this feedback to the Product Team to review 👍
Removing the full path to the folder wasn't very helpful either...
We have tons of subfolders called the same thing for our clients pretty much like this: Client Name/Print, Client Name/Digital
With the new setup we can't define which time entries that belong to a certain client in the full export.
