[Status: Not planned] New Feature needed for Reporting: Customize "Group by - Parent folder"

It would be great to be able to customize the "group by" option to offer more than [category, comment, date, task title, time spent, user, parent folder].

More specifically it would be extremely useful to be able to choose which parent folder the Report will group by.

Hi Ashley,

Thanks for your suggestion and welcome to the Community! In Reports, when grouping by parent Folder it means the data will display at the highest level (parent) Folders you've already chosen as your 'source data' in Report builder.

For clarification, are you looking to group only some Folders you've chosen to report on? I'd love to hear an example or use case of the data you want to see so I can help further.

You may also want to review this article from Christopher about grouping by Project in Reports which may be of interest to you

Looking forward to your reply 🙂

Hi Stephen,

Unfortunately the reports do not group the data by the highest level parent folders!

As an example here's what I'm seeing on my end for a simple "Time spent last week" report.

Our system is divided by category and then in each client folder we have project folders and in some cases have additional folders to divide the work by team.

Client A

-Project 1

-Project 2

Client B

-Project 1

  -Team 1

  -Team 2

In reports I am unable to simply have the total hours worked by each client and what gets displayed is

Client A

Client A - Project 1

Client A - Project 2

Client B

Client B -Team 1

Client B -Team 2

It would be great to be able to have more clarity in which folder is chooses to group them by because right now I am unable to get the data to display as

Client A

Client B

Client C etc.

Our organization would like to see this feature as well.

Or, an alternative would be to add a "Client" field to folders.

Then every project and task within that folder would retain the client value set at the parent folder level.

The challenge to this is that Wrike's tasks are distributed, meaning they really don't have a home, but an association. So you'd have to find some way to settle a tie-breaker.

I would also like the option to go higher up than the most immediate parent folder. For example, I may have a project that looks like this:

Project 1
   Step A
      Task i.
      Task ii.

Project 2
   Step A
      Task i.
      Task ii.

I'd like to be able to group the tasks by Project, and not by Step A. Right now, that is not an option

We also need this feature.

I would also like more options in this regard. It would be awesome to group by folder level rather than just by the direct parent folder. For example we have our top company level folder would be level 0, then our main project folder would be level 1, then each specific project folder would be level 2, and so on. It would be great in reporting and dashboards to group by the level 2 folder so that any task no matter how far it down it is in sub organization (we have other sub folders grouped by phase of the project) you could just specify the customer project folder to group by and all tasks would roll up to that point. Would be better for clarification and summary.

Or, what could be helpful is if we grouped by custom field on timelog views.

Would like to group by folder level rather than just by the direct parent folder.

Grouping by folder level would be super handy. It would be nice to see this feature added.

Just want to reiterate that this feature would be a huge improvement for us.  Even just being able to list the full folder path in the report would be helpful, so that, using Logan's example above, we could see a parent folder listed as 'Project 1, Team A" instead of ONLY "Team A."

Is there any plan to build this feature in the future?

Please add the capability to group by folder level rather than just by the direct parent folder. We need this very much! Thank you!!

YES!!!!  I have reports where we want to see trends across months- so to be able to Group by a MONTH options would be nice!  otherwise it is a manual process :-(

Was this ever resolved? I need a feature to sort by time spent for a specific time frame and to include parent folder/client names

Hi everyone!

Thank you for suggesting and supporting the idea!

I've checked with the team, this suggestion isn't planned for 2020. If that changes, or when I have any updates for you from the team, I'll make sure to let you know. I know it can be disappointing, but please rest assured that your feedback doesn't go unnoticed even if the suggested idea can't be implemented now. Thanks again for posting!

This is a HUGE issue for our agency. We are not able to pull overarching reports for parent folders as needed. This functionality is in most other project management tools and should be resolved asap.

We could really use this feature as well - for task level reports as discussed, and also for project level reports too.

The folder structure/cross tagging functionality of Wrike is awesome for organizing our work and assignments - but reports can be confusing when we can't actually drill down to the specific folders and/or project groupings necessary for a clear/concise report. Leadership needs high level reports, not necessarily all the information about where a task, folder, or project might live.

Would love to be able to group by folders instead of just "projects & folders"
