More keyboard shortcuts
It would be great if there were keyboard shortcuts for all commonly used functions. As of now, the shortcuts are limited, so it's not possible to leave the mouse alone.
Some features that would be great to see shortcuted:
- Add task to Folder/Project
- Go to Folder
- Go to My Work
- Toggle the My Work designation between Today, This Week, Next Week, Later
Hi Andrew, thank you for posting this, I can see how this would be useful! I'm interested in hearing about the types of shortcuts other Community members would like to see too, and I'll make sure to direct users who support this idea to your post :)
yes yes, seconded.
One keyboard shortcut I'm missing very much: it's very similar or maybe even the same as Andrew's - about adding task to Folder/Project. Here's my detailed description:
When I'm looking at a task, I want the shortcut to trigger same thing as the app would if I'd clicked the plus button (Add to Folder/Project), so the popup for adding task to Folders/Projects shows up:
Don't know if Andrew meant the same, but this is what I'm missing;)
Yes, Bostjan. Specifically, I use folders heavily as tags. Basically, most tasks are in a folder AND are tagged with a second folder. Having to use the mouse to quickly add all folders/projects/tags can really slow down when in task organization mode.
Andrew, exactly same reasons ;)
Hi everyone, thank you for adding your comments here! Those are great use cases and examples, I really appreciate it.
Would be good implement CTRL + K as JUMP combo. Fast switch between Projects, Folders or Dashboards like in Slack and another tools. Ty
Hi Viktor, a jump combination within Wrike would definitely be interesting (I personally rely heavily on that shortcut in some tools outside of Wrike).
Hey all. Keyboard shortcuts are great, but I'm heavily concerned about no markdown when editing descriptions. Do we have this feature on roadmap?
Hi Mario, thank you for commenting here! I noticed you already found the post with the original request about adding markdown formatting. Thank you for weighing in on that request there! :)
Keyboard shorcut:
Set due date: Today
Set due date: Tomorrow
A major improvement and reduction in input steps would be to allow entry in the task input box to mimic the email format. Then one can directly input with # and @ without having to move the mouse through myriad clock throughs. Have a look at Fantastical as eg.
Agreed. Another good example is Remember The Milk Smart Add feature
@Andrew, could get used to it ;)
Hi everyone, thanks for your input here! Looks like the main types of shortcuts most of you are missing are those for editing tasks, and specifically inputting info during creation. I think that's an interesting insight.
I would like to add my two cents that the description editor is light on keyboard shortcuts for formatting. Specifically, I'd like to see ones for:
Headings (Ctrl+Alt+1...5)
Bulleted list (Ctrl+Shift+8)
Ordered list (Ctrl+Shift+7)
Clear formatting (Ctrl+\)
... something to make it a bit more like Google Docs
Hi everyone! I wanted to share that we've just added two new keyboard shortcuts to the Workspace:
Happy to hear your feedback! :)
Great work :)
Although it's Alt + Shift + Letter - at least on my comp :P
Andrew's suggestion to look at RTM is spot on the money. This is simple, intuitive and can speed up the input process significantly.
@Andrew, I use Chrome in Windows and it works. Try clearing cache or at least hard refresh (Ctrl + F5).
@Bostjan. You're right. It's working. I had a conflicting custom keyboard shortcut. All works. I also just noticed the Windows desktop app is now in Labs, so I installed that and the shortcuts work there also.
The Wrike keyboard shortcuts are really helpful and it is really encouraging that the Wrike product team continue to release improvements! Thank you!
One efficiency improvement for keyboard shortcut junkies like myself would include shortcuts to format task descriptions and shortcuts to move within folders.
Echoing Matija Erceg's suggestion having keyboard shortcuts similar to Google Docs would be great for
It would also be useful to use keyboard shortcuts for assigning the task to today, tomorrow, remove the date due...it would avoid the date pop-up completely.
Specific keyboard Folder Navigation shortcuts would probably be best defined by the Dev team, but here are some keyboard shortcut actions that would save time:
A final note is the existing keyboard shortcut Alt + Shift + Esc to close a task window would be fantastic if it worked on my Windows 10 laptop. However, the system default Alt + Esc "Switch Windows" shortcut trumps Alt + Shift + Esc "close task" behavior. Googling for a solution suggests installing a hotkey app...but perhaps Wrike has a better solution!
Our team loves the Wrike tool and a big thank you to the Wrike team for their efforts to improve the product.
Hi Michael, I'm also a huge fan of shortcuts so I can definitely see how these would come in useful, especially the ones outlined for the description field. Thanks for sharing in such detail, it really helps of Product Team during the internal discussions about potential shortcuts. We'll make sure to post any new shortcut releases here!
Since I'm also keyboard shortcut freak, I'd like to bring up again the idea of adding task's time entry just with keyboard.
What shortcuts I'm missing right now:
I find a lot of what I'm doing in Wrike involves setting up projects. Being able to do so fast, without touching my mouse, would be extremely helpful. We need shortcuts for both navigation and for actions, including:
There are probably a host more. The existing shortcuts are not bad (though I find the "[" and "]" often don't work), but simply do not represent a robust enough tool set, so you need to go back to the mouse all the time, no matter what.
Just a remark, what I'm actually trying to achieve - I'd like to add/edit new task (title, description, directories/tags, asignee) and add whole time entry - all with just keyboard usage. Plain and simple ;)
Some other shortcuts ideas (while adding time entry):
A hotkey that runs on e.g. Mac desktop which allows a task to be quickly captured from anywhere with a floating text entry box, which then returns to the context where you were working after the capture. Would also be useful to use #foldername while entering a task to quickly allocate it to appropriate folders. Nozbe get this right.
In general, please focus on improving the hot keys, and in general making most things only keyboard driven. E.g. time entries cannot be done without clicking the mouse to complete it.
Trello also gets it mostly right
