[Status: Launched ๐] Code formatting in task descriptions and comments
Could you please enable users to format text in both descriptions and comments as code? ย Similar to applying the <pre> and <code> HTML tags, any text a user formatted as code would be displayed in a monospace font withย long blocks contained within a scrollable element.
Suggested mechanisms for implementation include:
- Dropdown selections in the GUI for code formatting.
- Single tick marks for inline code formatting, e.g., `code`
- Triple tick marks to demark the start/end of a code block, e.g., ```multi-line code block```
Bonus points for:
- Code syntax highlighting.
- Full support of the Markdown syntax.

Hi everyone, jumping back in for Andrey here. We don't have a concrete date to share right now, just that it is something the team plans to work on. The first step is releasing changes to the task description editor and the team will go from there. We will make sure to keep this thread updated as we have more information.ย
What is a suggested timeline for "plans to work on?" Is this going to take several months, similar to the length of this thread, or will this be faster than that? So many of us work in the comment spaces, this is really ineffective for communicating to team members properly. I appreciate the updates that you have provided, but am frustrated by the amorphous time ranges.
Yeah, doesn't make much sense having a product forum if you don't give clear and accurate answers.
Hi Sande and Kostas. I apologize that I can't give a more concrete answer (trust me, I would love to be able to tell you an exact date or timeframe, just as much as you would love to hear one). The best I can do for now is let you know that this is something that the team intends to work on. However, as soon as the team does start actively working on updating the comment stream we can provide an update.ย
Any update that you would like to share?
this has been since January
one last question, what do you need to make this happen or make it a top priority ? if 55+ isn't enough I can ask our admin to submit a formal request
please advise
+1 for Markdown syntax. Make your project open-source. People will take care of that matter very quickly.
Hi wrike team. I hopeย that the team will see this is really needed. its even very logical to assume this should have allready be in here. its a basic feature that is missing.ย
I hope it will not be like these jira/ confluence feature requests with competitors there you can easely wait 10+ years for a simpel feature.. (and still they are open)
What would it take to get this on a prio list?.. hold a social media campain? ย ;-)
A date or some expectation being set would really help descide current and or future customers to choose and stay with wrike and not to start searching for other solutions because these very basics are missing and or they will never get implemented.

Hi everyone, at the moment the update that Andrey Verbitsky (this feature's Product Manager) provided on May 9th is still the most accurate information that we have to share in terms of the roadmap.ย
In terms of priority, I want to assure you that the team is aware of how important this is (even though they aren't able to work on it immediately).ย The plan is to work on the task stream, but work on this area of the product is dependent on the completion of another release. Thank you for the continued upvotes here, it helps us have ongoing conversations with the Product Managers about feature requests.ย
Adding markdown or a simple WYSIWYG to comments as seen here would be awesome.
ย
Too many requests for this, not to be moved to the top of the priority list. It's a must have.
+1 for this one - crucial.ย
it seems that Wrike do not care this, I will bring this to our account
this could be a deal breaker
I would also like an estimated timeline on this. The comments field capabilities are far too basic for our needs (I can't event paste a url into a comment without the link breaking).ย
Considering the fact that this is supposed to be anย ideal platform for PMs (the land of timelines!), I am really disappointed that you aren't even able to provide us with a tentativeย timeframe that your team will be able to begin working on this.
ย
Dear Wrike Team--can you please point us to the uproar from users requesting updates to the task description editor? I personally believe it to be usable, whereas comments areย notย usable in their current form. It seems odd to me that somehow the task description editor more urgently needs an update, but if you can show us why you have chosen to prioritize that work, maybe we will relax just a tiny bit.
Like many others, we view this as a deal breaker for using the software. It is practically impossible to leave someone meaningful feedback when we do not have rich text or code formatting. As has been repeated many times above, this is a critical, baseline, expected feature in a PM app.
If nothing else, you will quell many frustrations if you can provide a timeframe to get this done.
+1 for this feature request
really !!!! 7 months and haven't been released?ย
this comment box has RTF can't believe that you can't roll out something similar to the comments sectionย
yes this is really needed, please bump up in the meetings/ management process. This is more important then a meeting feature with voip integration
its like riding a bike with square wheels, so first lets make them round so we can actually drive nicely and then try to win a bike speed content
+ 1 to this feature
Whats the hold-up fellas? A Wrike team member saw this in January, it is now August, still no progress?
Hello, we are looking into transitioning to Wrike and this missing feature is starting to look like a deal breaker for us as we start using the tool. It ย might prevent from completing the transition. Is there any update on the timeline of when we could expect this?
```
Wrike needsย to allow
multi-line code blocks.
```
And it would be nice to have `inline code snippets as well`.
Because sometimes, we want to share data snippets in a monospace font,ย and be sure that eachย space character will remain visible in the output.
pretty please!!
This feature is much more important than Wrike Meetings...
No need to say again that a lot of people seem interested. What is the Wrike Team doing?
+1 for Markdown syntax. Crucial feature!! Formatting is crucial for all types of communication โ not just code.
As a new team to Wrike we made the stupid assumption that this feature would be there โ how could it not. Itโs absence in anything but the VERY short-term would cause us to abandon your product.
As for order of priority โ tasks or comments โ please choose the comments. For the tasks, a one-time PMโs work, workarounds can be used to place code snippets. But in the heat of getting the work done as a team, placing code quickly and frequently is curial to efficiency. ย Multi-code blocks please.
I think Wrike team do not give ย too much importance to thisย
the last response from a Wrike team member was back in mayย
this totally a turn down ย I will recommendย my managementย to change to daPulseย
ย
Jesus โ I can't believe this wasn't in the MVP of Wrike. That it still isn't implemented is completely beyond me.
Please add this!
I posted on this on March 7th, and here we are, nearly 6 months later and many more requests, yet its still not done. Our team was just talking this morning about how bad Wrike comments are. It lacks basically everything a comment editor should have. Open source this sucker like two weeks and we'll build it for you, Wrike.
ย
+1 Andy Warren !ย Was thinking the exact same thing, there is plenty APIs and libraries available in every language that are already doing code formatting, it is not like it is costly or very demanding to develop this feature. Our team could probably implement the feature in two weeks as well. What is Wrike doing?
Maybe we should be doing pressure via social media. At least I got "some kind" of response via twitter. However, not the answer that I expectedย
