Search without "completed tasks"
Hello,
the new search in the upper right corner of the browser window is really cool and we heavily use it! It makes our work much easier!
But there is one thing we don't like: Search results also shows "completed" tasks, which we very seldomly need. Is there a possibility to show only "active" tasks in the search results?
Thanks for your response!
Michael
Hi Michael, if you type in the keyword and then click enter (or choose 'show more'), the list of results is generated in your workspace in a List View.
From there you can choose to filter by Status. Take a look below and let me know if this helps 🙂
Hi Stephen,
thanks for coming back to me, but this doesn‘t really help ... I know that this is possible!
I am looking for a much faster solution, because I use the search field around 50-100 times a day. It would be perfect if you could edit the wrike settings, that the results of the search field only shows open tasks and not completed ones. Completed tasks are very seldomly used and therefore it doesn‘t really make sense showing them in the search results ...
Best regards,
Michael
Oh, I understand now, thanks for coming back to me, Michael. I think the best way to go about this is to add an option to the Search Commands option.
For now, Search is based on keywords, but having 'sticky' status filters you can set for all searches sounds like something people might be interested in so I'm moving this post to the Product Feedback section. This way our Product Team will have better visibility and other members can vote and discuss 👍
Hello, to piggy back onto Michael's post here. We (6 years later) are still having this issue also! It is quite annoying to have to wade through the already completed tasks, especially when you have recurring entry functions and tickets have the same names. Is there any word on this being updated soon? The fast that so many years have passed without a remedy is mind boggling to me!
Hi Tiffany Maitland, welcome to the Community 🙂
It's possible to use filters if you click on the "Search" button after seeing all search results:
Could you please try that and let me know how it works?

I am aware of the additional filters that you can apply AFTER searching.
However my request is for a way to default your personal search settings, so that as soon as you search, ONLY active tasks show, instead of having to go through more hoops each time.
We search many many times a day and it would cut back on frustrations immensely.
Hi Tiffany Maitland, thank you for your reply. I'm afraid that the filters need to be applied after searching for the relevant items, as Lisa mentioned.
Since you mention that you perform these searches regularly, probably it would be advisable to create either a view or a Dashboard that would display only active tasks. Would this be a good approach for you?
Looking forward to your reply!
Showing closed tasks as a default doesn't seem very useful to me,
90% of the results are old closed tasks that I am not interested in.
I think that 2 possible solutions could be:
1. allow users to choose the default behavior in their profile settings or
2. add a button under the search bar to show/hide closed tasks
creating a dashboard or a view doesn't seem a solution, they are not easily searchable.
Fully support Mauros idea ... please implement as soon as possible!
Hi folks, thanks a lot for your feedback! Could you please clarify a couple of things?
I'd appreciate your replies to understand the case better 🙂

Hey Lisa,
sure ... here is my feedback.
1) How often do you use search?
In my company we are relying HEAVILY on search. We have structured our task titles in such a way that it's very easy for us to find current tasks. And we are mainly doing this via search. So each and every team member (including me) we are using Wrike search easily 25 - 100 times a day. And since we are an agency, we often need to work on several tasks simultaneously ... and in addition we quickly need to find SOP-tasks corresponding to the client tasks. Those SOP-tasks are also built in Wrike.
Wrike Search is GREAT, really great. But it's so useless to have completed tasks showing up in search results, if you are doing your daily work. Completed tasks are nearly never needed anymore, this is why they have been set to "completed", right?
2) Why filtering the results doesn't work for you?
We need to be able to find and open tasks very very quickly, otherwise we would need more time to filter tasks than doing the tasks themselves (to put it exaggeratedly). And most important, we need to find the correct tasks directly in the search popup, NOT via the search results list, because opening the search results list is always one step more that's needed. Worst would be to be obliged to filter this search result lists in an additional step ... doing this 100 times a day is a real pain and a nightmare for efficient workflows.
3) Dashboards can be easily pinned, why would it be difficult to find them?
Dashboards are not at all an option. If you need to find your tasks - more or less randomly - spread all across your whole Wrike database, we would need 100s of dashboards. That completely calls the whole search function into question, if we should replace search with dashboards :-(.
Search is for search, Dashboards are for pinning certain tasks or group of tasks based on certain criteria, but not based on random tasks. This is why we are searching for tasks :-)
I hope this helps. If you need more info from my end, please do not hesitate to come back to me again.
Please allow me to add: my best guess is, that it shouldn't be tooooooo difficult for Wrike to add a checkbox in account/personal settings, whether completed tasks should be included in search results or not ...
Best Regards
Michael
Really appreciate the detailed feedback Michael Pucher, I've already sent it to our team for consideration 👍
