Hi , can we please get a WBS feature in Wrike. Similar to Joshua's post above would be great. I am used working with WBS from Microsoft Project, which can auto-calculate WBS codes for all tasks. it is most useful when used with summary tasks or groups of tasks.

My use case is the following: I often get a draft version of a project plan from our presales team, which can come in very basic form such as a spreadsheet or word document. The draft plan contains project phases and tasks labelled with titles and WBS code. As a project manager, I am re-creating the project plan in Wrike while trying to keep the overall WBS structure of the summary tasks.  Often, the titles from the draft plan are not descriptive and need to be changed, which has a potential of confusing the project stakeholders. WBS codes can help guiding various team members through the evolution of a plan as we try keeping the WBS structure constant while task titles may change over time.

Thanks for your attention to this matter.

I don't want to muddy the waters too much, but the way I use WBS is to have work packages defined with clear deliverables. I am kludging a few things together at the moment where I am making sub-tasks to be deliverables/outputs rather than having a different item type.  For certain contracts, I am paid according to a schedule of deliverables and this often falls out of the WBS.

In an ideal world, the outputs of a task could be somehow identified in a searchable/filterable/data-friendly way (instead of being text within the description of a work package).

I assume discussion of these finer points would happen once the votes get above 60.

Adding my upvote to the mix.

@Lisa Agreed that conceptually a WBS is just a structured hierarchy, which can be achieved in the Table view as per @Johsua's example. The shortcomings I see are in the accessibility of this approach:

    • Manually creating WBS numbering/identifiers
    • Tabular view being visually dense and therefore difficult to quickly interpret/communicate, as opposed to a classical WBS graphical visualisation
    • Deliverables having to be represented as tasks, folders, or text in descriptions, when conceptually they would be better suited as an object type of their own

Hopefully this topic makes it into queue soon!

I was just about to start an own thread for this feature but using the search first I found this request.

Maybe a bit apart from classic project and task management we are using Wrike to control and do all tasks of our team. We gain transparency and qualitiy in our daily work and in our multiple and complex projects which we always do parallel.

We created different folders to track our projects and tasks, since we never work a day only on one tasks. The table is a way to get an overview which task is assigned to wich hierarchy but since it is only 2-dimensional going on forever (in our case) you will already have forgotten what was the first task when you reach the last one.

Today I learned that name of this tree / organizational chart view is work breakdown structure. I hope that this is the solution for getting a fast overview of all planned tasks in our folder hierarchy.

I already requested this feature in the customer satisfaction surveys but I think that these are not linked to features requested by the community.

Please give us this feature in a soon release.

    Fabian 😊

I'm going to throw my vote in on this one, i am limiting my projects to only going down a couple of level in WBS. Some of our projects are complex and require us to go 3-4 levels down.

For the moment I am working with what I have, I'm hoping that this gets added to your teams backlog and soon becomes a reality. maybe 2020 or 2021.

I think the WBS, as I understand, could be achieved with the table view, the new table view is actually a big improvement and help here.  I think the key would be to get the task ID's more sensible, that is requested across the forum and I wholeheartedly agree on that one, the current multi-digit (too long for me to know how many in fact without going back and checking!) ID's are not useful.

Also, I think task linking would be a huge benefit to this:

    https://help.wrike.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/360023517974-General-links-and-cross-references-between-tasks

The Visual Paradigm example put forth by @Carolin Mohr is really aided by those links.  In Jira, there are some add ons that will create a full live Diagram, like a MindMap in a sense, of task relationships.  Something like this would be huge, but that seems like the type of thing it would take Wrike 10 years to develop.  Sorry guys, but you are exactly cranking out new features of that sort!  Task links that truly relate to one another, ie if a task is mentioned in another task, the "mentioned" task also picks up the mention, is something I think you guys can do and really hoping you make it happen.  It would go a long way to allowing for a WBS to be created with the existing table, and some good numbering.

    Thanks!

And by the way I think it's worth pointing out that this now has 64 votes.  You guys have said repeatedly in this thread that is the amount needed to get a status applied.  You should at least take 5 min. and add something!  I'm sure a lot of people, such as myself, are watching these feature improvements and evaluating Wrike longer-term for their teams.  There are so many other tools right now out there, and it's easy to move off to one, so I'd really like to see you guys step up the game with speed of development, and response to feature requests, most of which I've found in the forums to be on the simpler side to implement, but many take years to see the light of day!  Case in point, I posted earlier today here:

    https://help.wrike.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/115000141329--Status-Backburner-Sort-Comments-by-Newest-at-the-top

    And immediately got this response:

"Oh, this again? Fat chance guys... they refuse to correct. It was a deal breaker for our CO; we've moved on."

    Thanks for listening guys!

@Al Sape I do not hink, that an organigram like view on structure of project, folders and tasks is such a big challenge for a developement team, since gant, table view, board view etc. are already up and running.

@Fabian, thanks!  I agree seems a simple fix I hope they can make that happen.  At times when features come out, in my experience so far with Wrike, I didn't even realize they were on the roadmap, but they can be useful, like the new table view which I've been using a lot.  Come to think of it, "both" new table views - the New Table view of a space, and the new tables that came out for task descriptions, which new abilities to re-size, and to add columns and rows via right click for example.

I would also much appreciate the integration of a WBS feature in wrike. It seems to be quite logical for Wrike to have this feature.

Hey everyone! As this suggestion got 60+ upvotes, I checked with the product team and the status is "Backburner" for now. They really love the idea though, and I'll continue to check for updates. I'll get back to you as soon as I have any updates to share.

Thanks so much for your feedback!

The lack of response to this issue, it THE REASON we have given up on Wrike.

Its really amazing how long they have ignored many many requests, in different areas.  The request process does not seem to work.
