[From Wrike] An Update on the Recent Item View Changes

Hello Wrike Community,

My name is Slava, I am a Product Manager at Wrike responsible for the Item view.

I wanted to address the concerns raised by you, our valued customers, regarding the recent update to our Item View. I understand that this change has caused some inconvenience. Our goal has always been to provide an efficient and seamless experience, and it's clear that we've fallen short of that in this instance.

We've been closely monitoring your feedback and we recognize that the changes have not been as intuitive or helpful as we intended. We want to reassure you that we take these concerns seriously and are committed to making things right.

We're currently in the process of implementing several steps to improve the Item View and make it more convenient for you. Here’s what we are currently planning:

  • We will introduce a switcher between the rolling-down section and the side panel with custom fields. All users will be able to switch according to their preference. Moreover, in the side panel you will also find the search feature that we introduced recently
  • Fields will be shown in multiple columns (after a certain amount of fields and in accordance with the Item view's width) in the current layout (rolling down section)
  • We will also save your "More/Less" setting - it will be expanded or collapsed when you open the Item view again
  • We will continue improving the Item view to provide you with the best experience

These are the example mockups of the upcoming updates:

We are currently working towards releasing the above improvements in the next few weeks, and we’ll keep you posted when they are available. Please note that these updates are for the Item view only for now - this means that they will not be reflected in the Custom Item type editor (configurator) layout for now.

Our team is working tirelessly to ensure that the updated Item View will not only meet but exceed your expectations. We truly value your patience and understanding during this time.

We're grateful for your continued support and feedback. It's this open line of communication that enables us to improve, and we encourage you to keep sharing your thoughts and experiences with us.

Thank you for being a part of the Wrike Community and sharing your feedback. We're committed to making Wrike the best it can be for you.

Will each item view have to be set initially or can a user enable it for all item views in their account? If not on the account level, this will not save our users any time. Also not being able to see the location of a task without clicking more is extremely frustrating for our entire team. it is their #1 complaint about light speed.

Yes, please ensure we can see the location and tagging on the "default view" across the board for all tasks. Thank you for listening. :-)

Yes, once users switch the mode, it's going to be applied and saved to all item views even if they switch to a different browser or computer. Moreover, preserving your collapsed/expanded (More/Less) state should help to reach the location and other fields quickly once Item View is opened.

Location is very important for us too. Our tasks are fairly repetitive and the location helps us easily identify the client/project a task is related to.

That is great news, thank you! Any word on changes with the location? I feel that this is something that should always be front and center.

Caitlin, I updated my response with one idea that should address the location concern. Let me know if it works for you.

Thank you for your feedback!

Thank you for this transparent communication, Slava Kogan! I'm looking forward to the changes.

Most people I spoke to today - who are now using Lightspeed since the old layout is now disabled - were very frustrated with the new item view. I hope this will alleviate some of the tension this has created.
I second Caitlin Beaty - WFH 12.5 here; not being able to see where tasks are located (e.g. parent task, project, folder) was one of the two main complaints I heard today. The other big issue the team faced due to the new item view was the "Update by Email" feature: the subject line with brackets is no longer available (at least not as a copy and paste solution), plus the extra clicks required to access the direct email address was a big issue today as it severely impacts all workflows. Could your team also take a look into this when you update the article view?

Slava Kogan Thank you for the update. That will be a huge help.

I echo all that has been said (particularly moving the email address behind extra clicks). In the rush to declutter the window, a lot of extra whitespace was created at the sacrifice of easy-of-access to information. Thank you for being responsive to the community.

Thank you for adding this option for users to choose! The previous change was causing my team some challenges, but this will alleviate our concerns!

Ralph Hirle Thank you for raising your concerns and sharing feedback from your team. We are aware that having all of the actions under the "three-dot" contextual menu is not really a convenient solution and we have long-term plans to revisit it, but I can't promise anything now. We definitely want to improve "the location" but my team is working hard to address the aforementioned issues first. We'll post an update on the community once we have something to share.

Great news! We use Custom Item type and prefer the side view. One question:

Custom Item type view will also be included in this change? It is only the CIT editor that will follow later?

Jacco Stam Yes!  Only the CIT editor will follow later. These updates will be applied to all item views, including custom item types.

We use more and more Custom Item Types and are very much in favour of the 'metadata sidebar', so please bring it back soon. Location is very important indeed! The last few weeks the updates have been rather confusing for a lot of people....

To me it is still a bit unclear when / by whom hidden fields and options can be seen in CIT items.

(And a very big challenge is to clean up fields that have been made available in spaces/folders/projects before we had CITs. Not sure how to approach this).

Please change the following

  • Add column borders between columns. Not sure why these were removed. This helps keep everything neatly organized and separated
  • Task location under task title. Not sure how an extra click to find this will benefit anyone
  • Search bar back to the upper right hand corner. Once again, not sure how hiding this is an improvement
  • Do a speed/load test. The new UI scrolling seems slower and tasks appear to take longer to load

Thank you for listening, and even more for this communication.
I love Karen Reijneveld's description of the collapsable right sidebar as "Metadata sidebar," that is exactly how we use it. We struggle to get the right information to each group and that sidebar has been a great new tool in the item view.

We really appreciate having the choice between rolling down and side panel. And thanks for potentially relocating the search function. That has thrown quite a few people since it shifted to the left side.

Thanks Kelly R.

I think the location of the sidebar (left/right) is not so much a problem: you can can used to that. The thing is that you want it to be visible at all times (if possible), because it is such an important tool to navigate within Wrike (the same goes for the location). You don't want the extra click.

This is great news! We appreciate the Wrike team hearing us and working quickly to implement our suggestions and more. Thanks Slava Kogan for providing clear documentation & mockups so we all understand the changes coming.

Slava Kogan Thank you for the update. Can you clarify something about the location? In your example, it looks like the folder location will be above the task title, not below. We really like it below because a lot of our folders are color coordinated and it's really nice to see that label on the location tag in the current system. If it's just the text, that feature will go away? Also, how can you tell if there's a parent task (and subsequently how to navigate to it) with this new layout? Many of our marketing tasks rely on a subtask structure and easily understanding that parent/child relationship. While this may be seen in the new table view, how would this work when viewing a my to-do list where the location and parent relationships are even more critical because they are out of context from their project or folder?

Thank you in advance for clarifying, and thank you so much for responding to the community feedback and communicating with us here. It's much appreciated :)

I'm confused about what this means:

Please note that these updates are for the Item view only for now - this means that they will not be reflected in the Custom Item type editor (configurator) layout for now.

Right now the Custom Item type editor shows the two-column view (that I like).  If the Item view gives us the option for a one- or two-column view, will the editor again be consistent with the two-column view?

While I appreciate the proposed changes that Slava Kogan promised and look forward them, I would like to flag another issues that seems to keep happening in the Wrike Community forum.  This Thread is an off-shoot of all the feedback posted in https://help.wrike.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/16103913650583--From-Wrike-New-Layout-and-Functionalities-of-Item-View-?page=3#comments.   While a link to this tread was posted in the above linked thread, there was no link posted in this one to go back to the previous discussion.   The same thing happened about two weeks previously when the above linked thread was started, which itself was an off shoot of many comments posted on the Release notes Thread.  My request is that previous discussions should be mentioned by Wrike staff when starting a new Thread so everyone can refer back to the previous comments.

Jessie Stith Thank you for the additional feedback! Slava and his team are currently planning updates for the 'Location" field based on the feedback, but theres no definite plan at the moment while the team is fixing the previous concerns. We'll keep you posted 👍

Stephen Barnecut These updates will be applied to all item views, including custom item types. The CIT editor will follow later.

MW - This is not how we would necessarily cross-link threads as the important part was to post the link to this announcement to the corresponding threads, but we've now added the two links to the post.

Firstly, thank you for being open to improving the lightspeed views.

We still prefer the existing view because we have many custom fields and currently we can see all fields in two columns plus the description on the screen at the same time.  I think we'll need to scroll down and up to see everything even with the lightspeed improvements.

While the rolling-down view will have two columns, there are still a lot of inefficient usage of space due issue such as:

- "More fields" toggle is huge and takes up a full row.  Can it be shrunk and moved to share some other row?

- In the existing/legacy view the location, task number, author, and creation date are shown efficiently.  In lightspeed, after clicking More, the same information takes up more rows and have unnecessary labels.  Please consider how to improve this.

Thanks!

Slava Kogan Thank you for attempting to help find a workable solution. Can your team please consider allowing us to position custom fields together  according to their purpose. We need buckets/folders/expanding sections for them. As an example, we have budget related CFs that become very wide in naming convention because we have to prefix them to keep them together. If you introduced expanding CF sections that could be labeled as needed and allowed us to tag the related CFs into them, this would resolve the issue and we could shorten the field names (which would help a lot on Table view and in reports).
