Duplicate multiple tasks from a project or task to another task

I would like the ability to duplicate multiple tasks from one project or  Task to another Task.   I can't duplicate a whole project to a task, I can only duplicate a whole project to another project.

For example I have a couple of templates with standard tasks, milestones and dependancies.  When I have a new project I can select my template project and duplicate the whole project (all the tasks / subtasks) to the new project.  I can assign a pre-fix name (I really like this feature)  and duplicate it right to the target project.  I can't do the same with tasks.  I can only duplicate one task at a time, in the same project (I can't duplicate it to another project).  It would be very useful to be able to select multiple task then duplicate them to a project or task.

Hi Brian, great to see this idea here! Thanks for posting it in the Product feedback section. :)

Yes - I agree. I have the same / similar requirement. I have a set of standard tasks/subtasks that I would then use to build different projects using the standard set of tasks/subtasks in various order depending on project type. Simply a copy procedure at a Parent Task level and then paste into a Project would be a great feature (unless this is already available and I just do not know how to accomplish?).  Thanks.

Hy Kyle, thanks for reaching out here! It sounds like Folder/Project duplication may help here - have you had a chance to check it out? Here's how to accomplish it:

  1. Create a template Folder/Project with the set of tasks and subtasks you'd like to duplicate.
  2. Right click on the Folder/Project in the navigation panel on the left and select "Duplicate".
  3. Apply the required settings for your new Folder/Project, and choose its location and name.

Is this what you were looking for, or were you referring to the possibility to achieve the same result without duplicating the actual Folder/Project? Looking forward to hearing from you!

Hi Brian! No updates to share at the moment, but thank you for bumping this thread!

Another bump for this feature.

We use folders as tags to assign tasks to teams, flag them as a specific type of task, and a number of other things. So the folder settings for the copies are really important, as we need to preserve them during the copy. We can duplicate a parent task in a template folder and all it's subtasks by duplicating the parent, *not* selecting a destination folder, and then adding all the tasks to the right destination and removing them from the template folder. I'm sure that duplicating a folder used to preserve the folder "tags", but it doesn't do it now so maybe I'm remembering incorrectly. So right now, to copy a set of tasks whilst preserving folder settings they all need to be under a parent. We need the ability to select multiple tasks and duplicate them with folder settings preserved.

Duplication does not help  at all :( Quite an over complicated feature. Simple copy and past or drag and drop would be useful. Not every data becomes a template sometime just a data move is required.

We also could use the ability to copy a set of tasks into an existing project. We have projects that kick off with a set of tasks, and then when they get to a certain stage, they need an additional set of tasks added. It could be 1 of 4 sets.

Currently, the workaround is to duplicate the project from the template and name and add its prefix and then move those tasks into the existing project folder and delete the now-empty project. It's not terribly difficult, but it is a bit tedious.

Are there any plans to develop a copy tasks feature?

Hi Melissa, we've no updates regarding this feature at the moment. Once we have any additional information we'll be sure to post here. Thanks for bumping the post and welcome to the Community 🙌

Is this any closer to being implemented? I am now finding that as I set up a new projects that have broadly similar tasks and aims, I am having to manually add each one rather than copy a set block of tasks over to a new project.

Us too, we just tried to do that, realized we couldn't, and then found this thread.

Our workaround was to add the tasks to a folder. Then duplicate a few times. Then combine back to one folder. Not the end of the world, but it would be nice to be able to do this from "mass edit" in the list view. :)

I'd love to see this too - the ability to duplicate multiple tasks to multiple projects at once. E.g. if we have a new process or procedure to implement for a bunch of in-progress project, this would save a ton of time/manual work.

Right now the only band-aid I can find to save time is to drop all tasks under a single one, then duplicate the single task to an existing project (one at a time), then drag/drop the subtasks back up to the main level. Not a major time-saver, but a bit!

Hi @Everyone, thanks for your continued input here. All your feedback is passed to our Product team, and upvotes of the original suggestion help them assess its popularity among Wrike users. For now, I don't have an update to share with you, but I'll get back to you when I have news. Once the suggestion hits 60 votes, we'll add one of the Product Feedback statuses to it.

Just want to add that this would help us immensely. We can't use template Projects because every project has a slightly different set of tasks--so we are copying all of them manually every time for each new project.

We would also benefit greatly from the ability to duplicate multiple tasks at once!

Moving or copying tasks between project is definitely required. Using template is handy but sometimes your project is already created when you think of a task to add to the template. Instead of having to recreate the task(s) in the template and project you could just create it in the template then copy to the project.

Needing this feature. I have a template with sections (task+subtasks) that I need to sometimes add to an existing project. I cannot just start over by duplicating the entire project. A simple copy paste from table view to table view should be fine. Fine to remove predecessors that are external to the group of tasks that are being copied, but if I'm copying joined tasks, I'd like the predecessors preserved.

Hi all,

I have a workaround for this since it seems they aren't going to add this obviously necessary and SUPER BASIC feature.

Create Project "TASKS TEMPLATE" - add your desired tasks.

Duplicate Project "TASKS TEMPLATE" and rename it "TASKS TEMPLATE 2"

Select all Tasks in TASKS TEMPLATE 2

A menu should come up on the right (or it may require a right-click after multiple task selection).  Anyhow, see screenshot for this one.

Choose MOVE TO and then choose the Project you want these tasks moved to.

Delete TASKS TEMPLATE 2 (and keep original TASKS TEMPLATE for future use)

I'm a new user and I'm creating my first project. I want to track multiple deliverables. Each deliverable requires completion of a standard set of about a half-dozen tasks. I want to simply duplicate those half-dozen tasks and then rename each from "Copy of xxx" to "XXX for Deliverable A", "XXX for Deliverable B" and so on. However I haven't yet found a way to duplicate more than one task at a time. Inability to duplicate a multi-task selection will make creating my initial project more time-consuming than it should be. Is there a way to do this?

Others have suggested use of a template, and perhaps this would help, but I don't know my way around Wrike at all yet. Having to create a template seems a lot more complex than simply selecting more than one task and duplicating the selection. Thanks for considering this input.

Ha, I forgot I was subscribed to this. My solution was to stop using Wrike. They obviously don't care about user feedback, so I moved on. I will unsubscribe now.

Hey everyone, thanks for all your feedback here!

Kelly Hagen found a great solution for this suggestion - thank you for sharing, Kelly 🙂 You can use Mass Editing to move tasks to different folders, projects and spaces with the "Add to" functionality:

Strong word of warning on the above solution - the 'add to' function does not create a brand new task the way that duplicate a project does, it copies the original task to the new plan and retains the connection to the original with its "tag." If you make changes or delete the "new" task, the changes will be applied to the original task as well. You need to remember to remove the original task's "tag" from the new task for the new task to become independent of the original task. This workflow is highly risky if you are using templated projects with a large group of users. I've had to patch our templates multiple times because of this issue. I do not recommend this solution unless you are the only wrike user on your account.

Satu Zamarripa  That's why the most important first step in the workaround is to ***Duplicate**** the original Tasks Template, select and add all Duplicate Template tasks to the desired Project, then delete the Duplicate Template.

This leaves the *original* Template and its tasks associated only with itself, and completely unaffected.

Solution how to duplicate task tree: navigate to 'List' view. Right-click task you wish to duplicate (top of your subtask tree) and select duplicate, select desired options, select path as your current project, drag duplicated task tree to appropriate location in Gantt chart (if appropriate).
