Having the option to turn off the auto fill for subtasks
Currently when I create a sub task I am offered suggestions on what sub task I want to add. If I choose one of those sub tasks it places the existing sub task (that another user has created) in my parent task as well as keeping it in the original parent task. It is similar to having a parent task in many folders, you can add the sub task to many parent tasks.
This can create confusion as any change to the sub task, changes the sub task everywhere. Some of our colleagues have added a sub task to their parent task by mistake and have then deleted it, not knowing the implications of this.
It would be great to be able to turn off this auto complete function when creating a sub task.
Is there any information on this one? We are having similar issues and I would like to be able to turn off this function.
This feature is the most obnoxious addition since they let you accidentally drag tasks into subtaks on their "Gantt" chart (while never giving you a way to fix it). It adds completely unrelated subtasks to a project and then for some reason won't let you untag the new project in subtask you have to "Detach" it.
I'd love to have full use of my arrow keys and be able to see what I'm working on without a useless autofill feature whose function already has 2 completely separate drag and drop options for accomplishing.
Well said Lesley :-)
Agreed!
Yes and Amen! LOL! This has caused us a lot of issues!
It's great to have Auto Fill if you are trying to keep to a naming convention, but it cause issues because it's not just a title suggestion, it's grabbing the actual task from another project instead of creating a new, separate task with the same name!
The issue it has caused for us is a team member will click on what they think is a suggested title, then realize that they are pulling an existing task and they hit delete!! This then deletes the original task and the creator of the original task has to re-instate it then find the original project it was in and get it back to where it belongs. HUGE inconvenience!
Would love to be able to turn this feature off!
I would love to see this functionality improved or removed like the others here have said. My biggest issue with it is that if I click on the "Create task" link and start typing, the suggested list pops up and wherever my mouse cursor happens to be (which is usually right over the second or third suggestion in the list) is the task that get highlighted. Then when I hit "enter" - thinking I am creating a new task - the highlighted task gets added instead. This prompts a few seconds of puzzled thought, some curse words muttered under my breath, and then the extra steps of "Detaching" the task and typing in my task name again - this time making sure to move my mouse cursor out of the way and pausing before I hit "enter" to make sure I don't have anything highlighted. This accounts for a lot of duplicate effort and wasted time and could be made better.
Please address this and at least turn off the automatic highlighting.
Agree with everybody on this. Very prone to mistakes and causes havoc if you don't detach and deal with it correctly. Many people try and delete first and then tasks are lost etc. Please improve.
Agreed, i don't see the auto-fill functionality having major benefits, but there are some obvious major drawbacks
Can someone from Wrike please provide an update on this? We have many tasks labeled the same, but for different projects. The auto fill function is constantly causing issues. Please fix.
Hi @everyone, thanks for sharing your feedback. For now I can't share an update, but it's great to hear what you think of the current functionality since it does help us learn about the popularity of requests on the Community 🙂

Just adding to this thread. Difficult and (occasionally) time consuming to think you have your plan all input and then have to go back and detach and reenter tasks again.
@Lisa, Any update on a fix? It's been several months. This "feature" is really annoying for those who don't use it.
Do we have any update on when this feature might get changed? You've clearly been working on it, because now, it shows both parent tasks/folders that your unwanted subtask is tagged too, but I can't chose which one to detach from, I can't undo the action, and I can't stop it from happening in the first place.
Plus the field covers up the tasks I've already entered making it even harder to work.
Since you guys have clearly been "working" on the system, can you please explain either why this isn't getting fixed or why you've chosen to ignore customer complaints?
Hi everyone, thanks for keeping this conversation going!

You are WORKING ON THE FUNCTIONALITY, but not taking feedback.
60 votes to get heard. Great.
I'll remember that. How about when you guys want to add a "feature" you come here and get 60 votes on a random thread first? Or even send out a note to all your account owners asking them if that's how they'd like the system to work because this feedback system, doesn't seem to be very effective.
I found this thread today, after much frustration. I completely agree with feedbacks given, and would like to add;
If I try to create a new task by typing - and my mouse pointer accidentally is placed over one of the auto suggestions - when pressing Enter (on keyboard) Wrike does not create a new task as expected. Instead it links to the existing task which accidentally my mouse pointer is hoovering over. This creates havoc.
Dear Wrike, could you please fix - really soon?
Hey Idar Kyrkjebø, thank you for your feedback here! It's been passed on to the Product team. I don't have an update for you at the moment, but as soon as I do, I'll let you know 😊
Has there been any update on this fix?
Hi there - with the new update to how Subtasks display and are used, more now than ever this has become a problem for our team as it's constantly pulling in an existing task if your mouse is only slightly hovering the list, when trying to create a completely new one. Interested to know if there's been a status update to this or a new community feedback thread going since the most recent update. Thanks
I agree with Jade and Idar completely - this is driving me NUTS trying to enter new subtasks! There's no "undo" button and the mouse pointer / enter button is a real PITA! Please fix this - I don't need more gray hair. :-)
just found the undo button, so scratch that statement, but the rest of it still holds true.
Hi Wrike, is there any hope yet of this awful "feature" being given the ability to be be disabled? It is SUCH a time suck to have to continually resolve. Any update on this would be most appreciated. Thanks.
Any updates to this? Confirming that this feature is extremely annoying and I would love an option to disable it. It's especially frustrating that it pulls from unrelated spaces.
THis is by far the thing that causes the MOST problems for me when creating a schedule. And for those who are not as savvy with the system, they automatically just delete the task, which deletes the ENTIRE task! something has to be done about this. I have lost whole sub-sections of schedules becuase someone accidentally added it to the wrong section and then deleted it. PLEASE remove this function!!!
Hey everyone! 🙌🏽 Thank you for your comments and suggestions. Our team is aware of this matter; however, there are currently no plans to implement this suggestion. If that changes in the future, we will be sure to keep you all updated. Thank you! 😊

Dealing with the same issue and can see that its been more than 7 years and the update in 2025 is that there is no update. What I am trying to decipher is what this feature adds to the workflow of managing a project? The ability to add the same task to various projects/folders? Maybe Basudha Sakshyarika you can shed some light on how to use this "feature/bug"? It's more a bug from my pov but happy to understand how it helps.
