[Status: Not planned] Generating Custom Item Types Via Excel Import

It would be really helpful to be able to generate custom item types via an excel input. Currently, my organization is not able to leverage custom item types much at all since 90% of our work is imported via an excel spread sheet. I would love to take advantage of some of the features and automations associated with custom item types, but changing the item type after task creation is too much trouble.

Upvote - I have 305 projects to create with multiple tasks that utilize custom item types - and apparently I am now going to have manually create each with the blueprint and not an import. Very time consuming!

I agree with this.  Having to do it all manually not fun.

Basudha Sakshyarika no problem, I've got my team to upvote this so it goes above 60 as a really important tool for us and I would assume many others. Be great to know if this could be scoped by the team for potnetial development

Our org needs this too to export>import large projects with custom item types without manually changing.

Welcome to the Community, Rachel Tayse, and thanks for sharing your feedback! 😁

We have forwarded your comment to our relevant Product Team for their visibility. On another note, just for your information, it's now possible to export Custom Item Types to Excel, you can take a look at this dedicated Community post for more details.

That being said, if there are any new updates in the coming months, we will be sure to share them 👍

I'd add 100 updates if I can!

We are trying to explore Excel imports/exports to create bulk work with set details (native and custom fields), but the fact that we a) can't set a CIT in the Excel template and b) can't use automation to change the item type upon creation once an Excel import is done prove to be major blockers. I thought perhaps we can add "Item type" - a native Wrike field that cannot be edited - to our template and preset it, but it looks like we can't do so.

I'm not sure as of when, but as this post has exceeded 60 upvotes and has been opened in 2023, can we have a status on it? This would be super helpful to the productivity of our teams!
