Add external attachments via API
Hi Community Team,
I work in a regulated industry with pretty specific and long-term retention policies. As part of an archival process for older tasks and projects, I'd like to be able to add external attachments to Wrike tasks/folders via API. Currently the only option is to attach files directly, or to edit the description to include links to sources like Box, Sharepoint, etc. If programmatically adding external attachments were possible, I could script the archival process to save space in our account and comply with storage policies.
Thanks and looking forward to hearing the product team's input!
Thanks a lot for submitting your detailed feedback Jimmy Moore; it will be passed on to the team shortly 👍

I have spent the last few days attempting to get wrike to add an external link via the API but the documentation is very lacking in that area. Can we get an update regarding this, or if possible, have your team update the docs. The information around how to create files is very thin.
Thanks for any information or help you can provide.
Hi Devin Campbell, I can see you discussed this with our Support team member. Please let me know if you need help with anything else 🙂

I would like to achieve the same adding external URL as attachment via API. The documentation doesn’t cover that at all. Please help.
Sure, Daniel. I've created a ticket with our support team to assist you with this. You can expect to hear back soon. Thanks! 👍🏽

All good Basudha Sakshyarika , I have already raised a support ticket and got the answer. It was disappointing, and I'm not sure why the answer can't be just added to the API document, but It is what it is.

@Rohan:
Are there any News on this?
I am waiting for a Solution on this since at least a year now. The docs say, you can add an external SharePoint file via the Wrike api, but in reality it doesn’t work.
Hi Alexander Stendel 👋

To get the latest update on adding SharePoint files via the Wrike API, I’ve reached out to one of our experts for assistance. Hi Rohan,
thank you for reaching out. I'm in the same situation as Alexander: i'm waiting since months for this feature since it would enable new use cases for me.
Rohan V Support was no help. This should be a simple documentation fix - my suspicion is that it is possible, it's just not well documented.
Thank you very much for further clarifying and sharing your thoughts. We appreciate your patience on this matter. We’ll keep a close eye on it and share any updates here if there are any.
