[Status: Launched ๐] Order of custom fields in the folder/project/task view
ๅบๅฎใใใๆ็จฟWhen viewing details of folder/project/task custom fields are displayed ordering them alphabetically. Such an order most of the times is not logical. For example fields starting with "%" will be displayed before any field starting with a normal letter.
For example the fields "Planned Cost", "Actual Cost", "%Cost Allocated", "Planned Man-Effort", "Actual Man-Effort", "%of Man-Effort Spent" will be displayed in the order:
%Cost Allocated
%of Man-Effort Spent
Actual Cost
Actual Man-Effort
Planned Cost
Planned Man-Effort
ย
It would more logical to be displayed in this order:
Planned Cost
Actual Cost
%Cost Allocated
Planned Man-Effort
Actual Man-Effort
%of Man-Effort Spent
or in this order:ย
Planned Cost
Planned Man-Effort
Actual Cost
Actual Man-Effort
%Cost Allocated
%of Man-Effort Spent
ย
Please implement a feature to arrange custom fields manually and inherit it to the hierarchy below.
Agree with everyone on this thread...it's important to order custom fields as needed or it's not really user friendly. I can't even number fields in the title to accomplish it because once you get to double digits it starts mixing them because it orders by the first digit. (i.e. goes from "1, 2, 3, 4..." to "1, 10, 11, 2, 3...")
@Randy Austin, you could prefix your 1-9 with "0" to fix that. (i.e. "01,02,...,09,10,11...) but it's still problematic if you reuse custom fields like we do. Not every project uses the same fields, so the number prefixes become nonsense.ย
@Joseph Hoffmann, You're right, these solutions definitely don't fix the problem. I'm just trying to find options that can put a bandaid on the issue until there is a true fix. Thank you for the tip! Very helpful!
How many people have to ask for this before it becomes a priority? For those of us that have been using Wrike for a while, it used to be that you had the option to do this, then there was an update and the option was removed and it is alphabetical as it is now. Undo what you did. Pretty please.ย
Hi Randy Austin, Joesph Hoffmann, Stephanie Miller, thanks a lot for supporting this suggestion and sharing your feedback!ย
This feedback is on our team's radar for sure, and they do have plans to revisit the overall custom field management in the coming months. I can't confirm that it's on their roadmap for now as the team is researching right now and they'll continue their research in the future. I or my colleagues will hopefully share more detail in the next quarters.
Thank you again for your feedback here!ย

I am also in agreement here, I can't even use wrike effectively anymore because having the custom fields in alphabetical order means I have to spend 5 minutes searching for something that I need to be able to find instantly. The whole reason that we liked this program was it's customizability - this seems like a major setback here.ย
I realize that your team is working on things, but this definitely should be at the forefront - it's something that never needed fixed and now is broken because someone decided to fix it anyways. Please let us arrange them ourselves.ย You can always ad an option to alphabetize if people want it, but it should be an option - not forced.
Welcome to the Community TRACY SHEPPARD, and thank you for sharing your feedback and support for the suggestion here!ย

This is a big deal for us.ย We have a ton of custom fields and being able to organize contact and/or address related information, just makes sense.ย Allowing other fields to be grouped (order information for example).ย I hope we get this soon!!
Hi Richard, thanks for adding your feedback and insight here, we've passed this on to the team.ย
As soon as we have any news to share here, we'll be sure to update the threadย ๐

Yes this is urgently needed. Projects currently look disorganized because custom fields cannot be clustered together so we're asking for disjointed bits of information one after the other.ย
Hi everyone! I have an update from the Product team: they are currently researching the possibility of introducing custom order for the custom fields in tasks, and there are also plans to research this for the project view. I've changed the status here to reflect the research, and once I have more detail to share, I'll make sure to let you know ๐
Laura D'Arcย Welcome to the Community and sorry for the late reply ๐

Any update on this? The ability to reorder custom fields in the project panel overview would be very useful for us too.
Welcome to the Community Sarah Douglas ๐
We've checked with the Product team and they currently continue researching the possibility of introducing this update. We should have more info about this in Q2 ๐

Ordering of custom fields is essential to leveraging Wrike in workflows.ย In addition, adding the ability to change the display size for text based fields will enable Wrike to be used for many workflows.ย Many users are frustrated by having to click into a field to read the contents.ย This is a detractor for increasing use of Wrike across the organization.
Wrike competes against BPM tools that enable customization of task/project display.ย Like Wrike the competing tools do not require code, but they do allow for ordering, suppression, and display management of data fields.
It is important to be able to order these custom fields in a way that is logical to our project management process, rather than alphanumerically. I have upvoted the original post and would like to know what the status is of this implementation. Thanks much!
Thank you for supporting this suggestion folks, we really appreciate your feedback! We keep this post on our radar as the team is researching this currently, and we'll let you know when we have any news to share ๐

Hi Wrike Team,
It is imperative to provide the user the ability to arrange the fields in a logical sequence and tailor it as per the projects requirement. Could we please get an update on this request?
Thanks.ย ย ย
Hi Sagar Dalvi, welcome to the Community ๐

Hey Zachary Dilworth!ย We don't have an update yet; the research continues. The team will be releasing new functionality in the coming weeks that could be a solution to the suggestion here. We will discuss it once it's released ๐

It's a bit disappointing that this task is over 2 years old and you are still "researching" there is clearly a need for it - the order of operations for project management is pretty critical so this is a significant oversight.ย
We require this functionality to ensure that our projects are being generated properly, alphanumeric sorting for this function means nothing.ย
ย
Hey Jess Moran, I understand it can be disappointing. Our team is currently working on new functionality that should enable users to change the order and even hide some of the fields in certain instances. The plan is to release it in the coming months, and we can discuss the details once it's there ๐

Hello Wrike Team,
is there already news regarding the sorting of the user-defined fields?
We are currently implementing a new workflow that already contains 40 custom fields that all participants need to see. We have tried to bundle fields that belong together by naming them in a similar way, but unfortunately the overview is still not good.
Is there an improved sorting in planning or are there other possibilities to show and hide the user-defined fields?
Thank you and best regards,
Sarah
Hi Sarah Klaeren, welcome to the Community, and thank you for posting. Our Product team is still researching this suggestion we'll be sure to let you know when we have any updates from the team.ย
Hi everyone! With the release of Custom Item Types, you can now manually order your custom fields and hide them if necessary when using task- and project-based types. Therefore, we are planning to put the "Launched" status to this suggestion. Please let us know your thoughts!ย

Lisa I don't really find Custom Item Types to be a fix for this issue -ย especially but not exclusively because it involves recreating every template and blueprint currently functional within our business to incorporate this. Secondly, we have aย select number of task types that require a significant number of custom fields. The visual format of the custom item types does not lend itself to our needs- normal tasks do.ย
Can this please be relaunched for discussion?ย
Thanks a lot for sharing your thoughts on this Jess Moran! This is now not only about the custom item types, but also the work item view where you can also reorder and hide fields. Our team is planning to continue enhancing work item view, but I understand your feedback about custom item types.ย

Hi Lisa, add another vote to the requirement to customize the order of custom fields at folder, project and task level. We are trying to use Table View in a project to replace our need for clunky shared spreadsheets (which often get accidentally overwritten) for a long list of items that need to be photographed for a seasonal launch. Our cells, and therefore custom fields, follow a logic and need to be ordered in a certain way to make them easy to follow. I can customize the order of custom fields in Table View of the Project (example: Fall 2023 Product Photography), but if I click into a task (example: 874 Black Work Pant) which we would use to track data and comments on the individual style (built as a task) that is part of the project... the custom fields are all alphabetized and it's very hard to follow. Basically means we can't use the tasks other than to populate the Table View to run the project efficiently. Competitor products (rhyme with SnareFable or SnartSkeet) have this functionality and we love Wrike more but desperately need this functionality to make our massive projects work.ย
