Looks like wrike did an update and now I can't find how to backlog a task without zeroing out the dates and then it becomes "set date"
is the backlog feature gone?

Hi Kari! We're making some updates to the date picker, not all accounts have it yet, but you do! The fastest way to zero out the dates right now is to change the task duration to zero and save. This is new, so we'd definitely appreciate feedback! Does zeroing out the duration work for you?
