Mark projects as siblings
Hi there,
I'm looking for a good way to mark projects as siblings. We are sometimes bidding for the same customer project but with different partners. These projects are all created from a blueprint and tasks need to be handled for each of the projects. However, it would make sense to mark, that these projects are belonging together to identify synergies. Any of these projects is a special item type "Customer project".
Shall be:
- visible for the project team
- useable in Dashboards / Analytic Boards
- not be within nomenclature of project, since this would affect customer or partner communication
- as in real life there can be projects without sibling, with one sibling or with more than one sibling.
Great approach would be a value list or dropdown, where I can select that one project belongs to another, but I'm not aware of any dropdown value lists based on an item type.

Raimund Dienst - My first thought is to cross-tag the projects or the subitems into each other. That would allow you to reference them easily.
You can use location in dashboards to help see this relationship as well.
Have you considered creating an project umbrella project?

Florian Kislich So an umbrella project would just be another project item type and only to have the tag... I will check that out. I'm not sure, if the umbrella should either be a folder or be a project item.
Mike Fank Thanks for your proposal. This is not that practical, since if I tag project a into project b, I cannot tag project b into project a. Furthermore it blows up timelines and stuff.

yes, folder or project, depending on your requirements. That's how I'd try to solve it.

For those reading this at a later time: The approach of an item Type "Umbrella Projects" was quit successful. Florian Kislich I was even copying your naming. :) Did not even need to explain - the organization adapted to this news at once.
Tipps:
- all umbrella projects are created in a subfolder
- the item type does not include any fields
- coloring umbrella projects helps to see the tag in a project at once.
