It isn't currently possible to set a custom field as required in Wrike. The Product team is interested in this suggestion, but there are no plans to implement this in the short-term. I would recommend adding your vote to this Product Feedback post about the suggestion so that you will be kept notified if there are any changes here.

I was able to get this going by adding an automation rule on the tasks within a particular folder. When the task is marked as completed, I create an action to check if the custom field is empty. If it is empty, then I change the status to "In Progress" and then also create a comment on the ticket to fill the custom field. That way, I was able to enforce in making a few custom fields mandatory.
My team really needs to be able to make certain custom fields mandatory. We have also expressed that with our account reps a few years ago.
This is making our reporting time more than double as our team has grown globally. It looks like other individuals have expressed the need for this update, but yet it keeps being deferred into a "voting" type manner.
This update shouldn't affect customers who don't need it, but be tremendously helpful for those who do.
If this isn't addressed I will be suggesting we move into another platform that does.
