Auto populate custom field when creating a project with blueprint in a folder where items are grouped by that custom field
Hi,
I realized that in my case when I am using a blueprint to create a new project in certain conditions, custom field does not auto populate. Here are the detailled use case
Context : I have several projects within a folder. Those projects are grouped by a custom field named "Prio". When the "group by" feature is used, some lines appears according the values used for this (custom) field. On these lines we can use the + icon located in the cell displaying the value (see image below) to create an item and this action auto populate the (custom) field with this value.
Issue : When I click on the + icon to create a new projet using a blueprint, my custom field "Prio" is not populated and my new project goes in the 'Empty' group at the bottom of my folder.
Question : is this an expected behavior ? if not do you plan to fix it ?
Hi there! It is possible to pre-populate the "Prio" field in the blueprint if that value is always standard for the project or task type. We do this for custom fields that are consistent across all instances.
Unfortunately, there isn't an automation option for location-based projects/tasks. For cases where value depends on context (like location or other conditions), we use a "Control Panel" dashboard. This dashboard includes widgets that flag missing information. For example, I'd create a Prio Folder widget using the PRio folder as the data source. It would show any projects where the custom field is empty and then I can use Table View to quickly fill in those values.
My goal with the Control Panel is to keep all widgets empty - it gives me confidence that nothing is slipping through the cracks.
