Dashboard vs My Work

Hi all,

I'm currently evaluating wrike for my small project. One of the things I cannot achieve yet, is a nice and organized "todo" view:

"My Work" looks good, but this today/later categorisation makes no sense for me. If task is rescheduled for later, I want it gone from "today", and when it's time comes I want it back it "today" automatically. This is what scheduling is for, right?

Dashboard is the other option: "todo today" + "my backlog" give exactly what I want, but here I miss all these UI goodies - parent task visibility, drag'n'drop between dates, slide gestures on android

Hi Niko, thank you for trying out the experimental version of My Work!  I've passed your feedback about it to the rest of the team, as well as the point about the UI goodies :)

I wanted to let you know about the logic of the current (non-Labs) version of My Work, which you can switch to by disabling the experimental feature in Wrike Labs. It sounds like that might align more closely with your use case. Tasks show up in My Work's "Today" section when today falls into the dates of the duration. For example, if a task is scheduled from October 7th till October 10th, it will appear in "Today" for four days. If you would like for tasks to show up only on the last day, you can schedule them as 1-day tasks due on that date (e.g. October 10th only), and then you will see a to-do list based on tasks for the current day. I hope this helps!

With non-labs version,  what happens if I move task to next week? Will it come back to Today, when next week comes? If I unpin it, will it show up again according to scheduled dates (looks like no)?

Also in android app, there are only Today and Later. Is it labs version or current?

That's right, Niko. Once a task is manually pinned to a different section, it stays there. In this case I would suggest opening the task and rescheduling it to the date you would like to start working on it. As you mentioned, Dashboards are also a great way to keep track of your to-do list. Have you had a chance to give Custom Widgets a try? They allow you to personalize the tasks you see based on any filtering criteria :)

In regards to the Android app, it has its own current format of My Work. Inbox in Android is a new feature closely aligned with the version of My Work currently in Labs - that's why it has those same two sections.

I think the OP here perfectly explains my own frustrations with the MyWork feature.

IMO the added logic for "today" or "later" or whatever... is not intuitive and unnecessary.  I wish it was simplified.

Making matters worse... I HATE the logic in the new lab version (I don't say that often about wrike).

  • Forcing users to manually sort tasks as "today" or "later" is extremely irritating (never liked it in the android app either)
  • The "later" tasks do not seem to automatically return into "today" when it's date approaches!
  • However, I LOVE the streamlined UI compared to the default MyWork

Sadly, I've stopped using MyWork altogether, and only use dashboards despite the limitations mentioned in the OP.

Gotta admit the "My Work" view makes absolutely NO sense to me whatsoever... Today IS the 27th... I've changed the  "due date" on the "Do the 15 and 20 k banners" but it doesn't move up to the "Today" section. Even after a refresh it doesn't move up :-/ I can manually drag it up, but then if I change the due date with a 1 day duration to "tomorrow" which is the 28th, it still stays in the Today section... #NotIntuitive #SoConfused

Hi Logan! Once you move any task between the categories in My Work, the system treats this as your scheduling intention and further rescheduling of the task will not change its location in this view. If the task was not moved around manually it will automatically be moved from section to section as the dates approach. I understand that this doesn't work for you, and I have passed your feedback along to the team working on the new version of My Work. Meanwhile, I also recommend taking a look at the Dashboard, which is fully customizable and I think it could meet your scheduling goals :)

Totally agree with said above: My Work is confusing: Anastasia offered to use Dashboard, that is locked in free version. It pushing to discard Wrike and use other systems. May be you'll keep My Work fully automated, based on begin and due dates? And you can add one more filter, call it Stared. This is way if somebody will need parallel manual management he/she will have it! The same in your apps.

I like the idea of dragging and dropping tasks around - That's Amazing! But when I drag a task to "Today" I would expect it to become Due today... and if I drag it to tomorrow then due tomorrow...

But, I must admit, I'm starting to understand the logic that is in place because it does make sense that a "higher-up" might assign a task to be due on a specific date, but maybe I want to accomplish it sooner rather than pushing the deadline...

@Logan Yes, you’re exactly right: the intention of My Work was to allow people to plan out their days without affecting scheduled due dates (which may have been set by someone else).

@Mihail, thank you for sharing your thoughts about the My Work section. My Work has some automation, but it was also built to allow individuals personalized control over when to do what. I have a couple of suggestions based on what you said.

Option 1: When you add a task to My Work by starring it - Wrike treats that as a manual move and the starred task remains in the section you add it to until you move it again (no automation). However, if you add yourself as an assignee to the task, the task automatically moves into different sections of My Work based on its scheduled dates. Adding yourself as an assignee may not always work, but it's something to keep in mind.

Option 2: You can track starred tasks with the help of Folder Tags. Here's how:

  1. Create a Folder called "Starred Tasks" or "Favorite Tasks"
  2. To make it distinguishable, you can add some color coding by right clicking on the Folder in the navigation panel and choosing "Color"
  3. Open a task you want to add to this Folder, and click on the "+" sign next to the current Folder list, located under the task name:

This task now lives in multiple locations, and you can easily access your starred tasks right from that Folder :)

@Anastasia, thanks for your comments, but:

Looks like My Work works well on desktop web. But it confused within app. I'm changing date from today to tomorrow, but task is still in today section. Is it supposed to be this way?

@Mihail Hi there! We're in the process of making some updates to My Work (you can see more about the labs version of My Work here). Right now the logic on the Android app more closely matches the Labs version of My Work rather than the desktop version. With the Android App: tasks do not move automatically from section to section - they remain in the Today or Later sections until you manually move them to a different section.

However, the logic on the iOS app matches the logic on the desktop version and tasks should move automatically (unless you've manually moved the task).

I hope that helps explain why things might be working differently, let me know if you have any follow-up questions.

Hi folks

New user here. On dashboard view, I've dragged a task from This Week to Today and now can't find it anywhere in the to-do list! It's still appearing in the client folder but not showing up anywhere on Dashboard or My Work.

Have I done something screwy?

Amanda

Amanda, welcome to Wrike!

To change a task attribute through Dashboard widgets, you need to create two Custom Widgets where the filtering criteria has only one differing attribute. It would be helpful to see the current widgets you have set up, so I've reached out to our Support Team who will help get to the bottom of this in no time. Please check your inbox for an email from the team :)

I also wanted to share a few useful Community resources which are great for getting started:

I don't currently use the new My Work from Wrike Labs but am experiencing a similar problem it sounds like to what others are. And I have not in fact assigned things to "today" or "later" manually. I only update due dates but yet my work is filling up with things that aren't due for weeks. Is this a glitch or is there some logic that I don't know about. I literally never have had this problem before (though my boss did) until about a week ago. And now My Work for today is pages long. HELP!

HI Maggie, thanks for posting here! Tasks in My Work are categorized according to their start date, and not due date. If today coincides with the start date, or falls between the scheduled start and due dates, then the task will be shown in "Today". The My Work Help Page contains the complete organizational logic for these sections. Let me know if this isn't how tasks are organized for you, I'll be happy to investigate this further!

Thanks Anastasia, I do understand that and until about last week that was what I was experiencing. Starting last week I have a bunch of tasks showing up in My Work that don't fall into today based on their start OR end date. Can you help me figure out what's going on?

I'm actually experiencing Maggie's issue now.  I thought it was just the My Work lack of intuitive UX, and now I've manually moved everything so I'll never be able to re-sort all my dozens of tasks automatically.  Just poor design.  And I'm a 20-year UI/UX designer for massive corporate web applications.  Listen to the customers, please.
