[Status: Launched ๐] Mark Project on Hold Sub-Projects and Tasks Should Follow
We have a project with multiple subprojects which also have tasks and subtasks. If we put a project on hold, there should be an option to place all subsequent tasks and subprojects on hold too.
I have brought this up before so I know that there is an option with mass editing, but when you have multiple projects each with custom workflows using mass editing removes the custom workflow assigned.
Hi everyone! I'm happy to let you know that this is now possible with our latest update to Wrike's automation - enhanced status control for subitems. Now, when a parent status is set to a specific state (e.g., Completed), you can set all direct subitems' statuses to all completed, deferred, canceled, active, or select any specific status ๐ Please check out this post for more details (and other exciting updates for automation), and let us know your feedback โจ

Hi Jennifer, thanks for sharing this feedback. I can see how mass editingย in your use case is not the best approach. I'll make sure to bring this to the attention of our Product Team and post back here with any updates ๐
Hi Stephen, is there any update on this request?
I was also hoping to have a way to mark all tasks under a project on hold when the project is on hold.
Hey @Simon and @Myron, thanks for reaching out! I don't have an update to share at the moment, but I'll pop in here when I have news.ย

I have my first project that needs to be put on hold, which means that all of the associated tasks are on hold until we begin the project at a future date. I changed the status of the project to "on hold." What exactly does that do if it doesn't effect the start / due dates of the tasks within the project? Thanks in advance!
We also have a project that is being put on hold, and I foresee that this may happen more in the future with us an other companies. ย To add this feature would be really helpful and a time saver. ย When the project gets changed to "On Hold", all sub items/tasks get put on hold as well - thus removing them from people's task lists and workloads - this just makes sense. ย When the Project resumes, it would be great if the tasks will go back to their previous status and a new timeline that can be chosen when the project resumes.
Is there any update on this feature? We are looking to automate that when a project is placed "On Hold" the tasks and subprojects within that project that are still active move to "On Hold" as well.ย
Still looking for this in 2020 :). I'm noticing that Wrike's customization hinders a lot.ย If a project is on hold, it can't (or shouldn't) be worked on by the team, so tasks and subtasks SHOULD also be on hold.ย Otherwise, what's the point of the non-reported project status?ย Having to then go into each individual task to place it on hold is time consuming.
Hi everyone! Our team is researching the possibility to implement this. No promises yet, but I will let you know when I know more!

Hi all, I was hoping there might be an update. It is important to my team that when a project is marked on hold that the remaining tasks would also be on hold. If not we have to spend a lot of time marking each subsequent task on hold and then when it becomes active again we're dealing with the same issue of marking each task active. Also, there is a lot of room for error with this. Thank you!
Our team also struggles with this issue and I'm hopeful that Wrike will provide a fix for it soon!ย
Hey guys, thanks for your support for this suggestion! The team continues researching this for now, we'll make sure to let you know once we have an update from themย ๐

adding my voice to the fray and seconding the other suggestion that when removing from hold, all tasks / subtasks would revert back to previously set status.ย It seems the function would be to ADD 'on-hold' to existing status so that a task could have two statuses and the 'on hold' status would override the other one.ย Then, when removing the on-hold, the earlier existing status would still be in place.
Hey Tonya Creamer, and welcome to the Community!
Thank you for sharing your input with us here. I don't have an update about this suggestion at the moment, I'll keep you posted if there are any changes.
Greetings,
ย ย ย ย ย ย ย Is there any new information on this request? I would love to hear that it's in development. We use personal dashboards and our on hold project tasks seem to take over my team's task list. Currently we would have to place each task under the main project on hold and then reverse the process when moving the project off of hold.ย
Hi Scott Norris, thank you for reaching out!
This should soon be possible with Wrike Automation. There's an action to change children status if a project status changes to a particular status.ย
Hope this helps!ย

I still don't notice this as an option in Wrike automation. Am I missing something? Thanks!
ย
Lisa This sounds awesome, but I am slightly worried about its functionality.
Lets say we set up this automation (once it is available) so that when a project is put on hold, the tasks would also be placed on hold. Would it put the task on hold in the workflow it is in, or would we have to pick one ON HOLD status? The tasks within a project could be using multiple workflows.
Example:
PROJECT- Create & Approve New Product Packaging
Task A : Graphics to Design Packaging
Task B: Packaging Review and Approval
All of our workflows have an โOn Holdโ option, and that is what the tasks should be updated to when the parent project is set to "On Hold". Based on some of the other automation options, I have a feeling that with this one we would need to specify which status to change all tasks to, which unfortunately causes more problems than it fixes.
Thanks a lot for this detailed feedback Ashley Fischer, I will pass it on and discuss it with our team. This action isn't currently available, but we really appreciate your point here ๐

Any update on when this project automation will become available? We need to start relying on using subprojects in order to handle project phases more gracefully than can currently be handled, but this will mean having to manually update 2-4 projects each time we need to put a project on hold. Any idea when we might be able to sync project statuses to subprojects?
Dan Cliff I don't have an update at the moment, which means that the team is still researching and assessing this. We will definitely let you know here on the Community when we have one ๐
Thank you for sharing your use case here!ย

I would support the ability to update the status of the project and have the ability to automatically update subprojects and / or tasks associated with that project.ย The same would apply for other changes as well, such as fields you can edit on the project like Name, etc.
This lack of functionality is one of the main drawbacks to Wrike, for our company.
Hi Bonnie Watkins and Brandi Jobes, thank you both for taking the time to share your feedback here. The team is aware of the feedback here, and we'll be sure to let you know if there are any updates.
Observation.ย 56 months seems like a long time to wait for an answer.ย If it's not going to happen, just say that.ย ย
Keep upvoting this post.๐
Hey folks, this isn't on the team's plans at the moment. At the same time, we continue passing on your feedback and the vote count here, and if our team's plans change in relation to this suggestion, we'll make sure to let you know!ย
