Tiered Reviews & Optional Approvers
We are seeing a growing need for built-in Tiered reviews or different review levels and the ability to mark an approver as optional.
Example:
Tier 1 Review would be an internal or creative review and ideally, we would be able to automate the next steps. If approved at that point, it would move on to the Tier 2 review. If they required changes, we could notify the project manager as we do now and it would kick into revisions and start that process over.
Tier 2 would be the next level of review - typically this is the original requestor, a marketing strategist, sales manager, etc.
Additionally, we have some reviewers who we deem required and others who it would be nice to hear from but we wouldn't hold a project up waiting for their review. It would be awesome if we could mark reviewers as optional so that if the primary or required reviewers mark it approved, we just considered it approved and can finish the review at that point.
Yes! Would love that feature!
We're managing around the phased review issue by having subtasks for each review phase, assigned to whomever is responsible for keeping the review on track, reconcile conflicting feedback, etc.
On the topic of optional reviewers, would also like to see a way to manage user & guest reviews in a more consolidated way. Ideally, I would be able to send a proof to multiple reviewers & indicate which reviewers are required vs optional & have the status change to approved when all required approvers approve, regardless of any optional reviewers' decisions or lack thereof.
Having optional/required approvers would be fantastic - we use Approvals a lot, but have issues when users are on annual leave. It's a pain to change workflows for a few days only to have to change them back.
Hey everyone, thanks a lot for this feedback! 🙂
Have you thought of using an automated workflow with approvals with 2 steps and configure transitions to emulate 2 review stages?
It's also possible to just @mention the non-mandatory reviewers with an "FYI", for example. Please let me know what you think!

Lisa - I appreciate the suggestions and these are things we have considered but would prefer it was rolled up into one part of the workflow and managed through the proofing and approvals tool and process for the tiered reviews. Automation of the workflow isn't an option in our case because we have different people in the approval tiers based on the market or type of project. We'd definitely prefer not to have a bunch of different workflows to manage for each market/project type when projects generally follow the same path, but with different people involved.
We have, at times, @mentioned someone as an optional reviewer but more often the optional reviewer is a guest review and the review gets into limbo or rather than completing the review we have to either remove them and complete it or just cancel the review if they've not left any comments. It's not ideal - again, being able to mark them optional so that we show that they were added to the review as optional, did or did not leave feedback and we were able to complete that review, would be excellent.
Thank You!

Thanks for the tip Lisa! I like that approach a lot, but the majority of our reviewers are guest reviewers who aren't willing to be collaborators. :(

Thanks for providing details for your use-cases! I'm passing them on to the team too.

Hi - adding in a vote here. This functionality is so crucial for our team. It exists in a different system that we are moving away from in order to come to Wrike, and the amount of workarounds we are creating is immense. I had heard this was being scoped, but are there any updates?
Hey Michelle McMillen, thank you for adding your vote here!
I'm checking with the team to see if there are any updates and I'll let you know if there is one 🙂

This is so crucial for our team. The approval process is rather clunky and this would save us a ton of time!
Hi - I vote for a more robust approval process - something similar to Lytho. Thank you!
Thank you for your continued feedback here, folks!
I've checked with the team - there's currently no update for approvals, but we will let you know if we have any in the future 👍

Agreed - this would be super helpful for creative processes moving forward. Optional reviewers help us make the best creative content possible as we can all collaborate across different projects.
Adding an upvote here. This functionality is critical for our team. We have had this in our prior system and it makes life so much easier. Please. Please.

Thanks so much @...!
Another upvote for this. We have optional reviewers that hold up everything because Wrike views it as incomplete when one of them doesn't review in time.
Thank you for upvoting this suggestion and for sharing your workaround! Nicole S
Yes! We have the same need.
Upvoting this so this doesn't get forgotten.
