WIP (Work in Progress/ Process) - Limit
hello everyone,
i think it would be great if it would be possible to set WIP (Work in Progress/Process) limits for lines in the board display.
This could enable a team even more to clarify what should be delivered or implemented next, to easily see where the bottleneck is in the workflow, etc.
The goal should be to deliver results and not to work on many topics at the same time.
Best regards
Jürgen
We set up a priority workflow and you can report on this as well then. Go to worfklows and create a priority 1-8. The manager can then choose the priority for each task and the designer / product manager then works on this as a priority list.
Thanks for the feedback.
Prioritizing tasks is important, but I can still work on 10 tasks "at the same time". But the goal should be to focus on work and the completion of tasks.
The work in the system must be limited, so that the focus shifts from starting to finishing.
The WIP-Limit is a methodology from the Kanban-Board.
Work in progress (WIP) limits set the maximum amount of work that can exist in each status of a workflow. Limiting the amount of work in progress makes it easier to identify inefficiency in a team's workflow.
I agree that this WIP Limit - basically being able to put a conditional setting on an event where if a folder reaches a certain maximum capacity of 'Active' tasks with the Kanban workflow's 'Doing' Status, that an error alert would occur when a user tried to change another task's status to Doing.
Basically for this to work and comply with Kanban board practices, there would need to be the ability for a user-defined maximum of tasks within the 'Doing' Column/aka Workflow status. This maximum number of 'Doing' tasks would vary from team to team and Customer to Customer so would need to be able to be set at a Folder/Project level and only apply to tasks within that Folder/Project.
Ideally there are conditional markers that could be applied to help 'warn' users that the WIP max is close to reached if the status quantity for the status 'Doing' is between 80%-100% or some user-defined range; and then another warning message or error message when someone tries to add a task to this 'Doing' status/column once the maximum capacity is reached. This message should say something along the lines of: "WIP Limit reached, you need to complete an active task before you can take this action" or something to that effect.
Thank you for the feedback you've provided here, everyone! It's been passed on to the Product team, and once I have any updates from them, I'll let you know.

Hello, any news or updates regarding this WIP limit functionality. My client is adopting Kanban and as they are thinking on using Wrike, I surprisingly see that WIP limit is not yet supported. Do you expect to deliver this functionality soon this year ?

A Kanban Board without a WIP feature is unfortunately not a real Kanban 😓. Hope this will be fixed soon 👍
Hi Roland Bauer, thank you for adding your support for this suggestion. We'll be sure to update you if there are any changes in relation to this idea 👍🏼
What ever came of the WIP discussion. I am looking for a feature like this now and cant locate one?
Glad I'm not the only one still wondering about this Chris Richardson. Guessing this isn't going to be implemented Wrike Team?
Crazy how ya'll have a whole post dedicated as to why Kanban needs WIP limits, but have failed to implement them in your own tool: https://www.wrike.com/kanban-guide/kanban-wip-limits/
Bryan Mendez Bit misleading even if you ask me.
Same goes for more topics such as float calculation, also a Wrike article of that.
Many of these "agile" wrike articles seem to be there for SEO purposes only and have no connection with the actual product. A bit misleading f you ask me. Wrike seems to be designed for waterfall by default.

Adding my vote here as well for a WIP limit functionality. I'm using Wrike to track projects but kanban in another application because of this lack of feature. Thanks!
