Add "Completed Date" to Baselines

Hi,

Baseline view is very useful in Gantt to track the moving planned dates of Project's tasks.  However, I am finding that there is a big piece missing - the actual completed dates.  Tasks, unlike Projects, have this available in Gantt View:

It would be great to get insight into this with Baselines, as I think the most relevant info about a Project's success is when it actually completes vs. planned dates.  Now with Baselines you don't have any visibility into that, so if a Project is way off track - or ends earlier even - you can't see that on the Baseline.

It would be great to add Projects into this as well, but we'd first need to get Project Completion Date visible.

Thanks!

Hi Al Sape! I tested it, and here's what happened: When I filtered the tasks on the Gantt Chart's table to show all of them, including the Completed ones and also clicked on the gear icon so that the table had a column "Completed date", and then created a Snapshot, that column was visible on it. Can that help? Or did I misunderstand? Please let me know!

Hi Lisa, thanks.

As I understand, the Baseline currently shows visually the initial dates with the "gray" lines I marked here:

Also, the folder in question has delayed 21 days, is that correct?

What I meant to say was, I think it would be great to also have a visual representation of an actual Project and Task completion date.  I've seen this on some Gantt charts with a dotted line out to the actual completion date.  Right now, am I correct that the Baseline here is only showing the variance in Due dates?   But when these tasks complete, that information is only held in the column you pointed out, but not visible on the Gantt chart itself?

Also I wanted to stress here that I'd like to see the Project's completed date, not just the Task's.

Thanks again!

Hi guys, do you have any insight as to whether you guys will be incorporating actual completed dates visually in Gantt?  Both for Projects and Tasks.  This is a very basic piece of information that is very helpful to have in Gantt, it's sometimes handled with a "Secondary" line that you guys have already with Baselines, except that the Baseline View shows, as I understand, the difference between when you initially set a start and due date on a task, and then change it later.  My team most finds most useful when we can see:

- Initial Planned Due Date

- Due date after Start date, which often will move from Initial, especially if the Start Date is after it was initially Planned.  And if this is a dependent task, ideally the start date would be driven by the predecessor's completion date - not due date, because that can be different than the completion date.

- Actual Completion Date.

As I've mentioned, I've seen some software that will add to the Gantt, in addition to the Baseline indicators, a dotted line indicating actual completion date.  And move a Project's due date automatically based on when its tasks actually complete, not based on adjusting due dates.  This saves a lot of time.  Right now in Wrike, if I want to keep the overall Project's Due Dates current, I have to cross-reference due dates and actual completion dates.  And in fact, if I want to have the Gantt update to represent "real" work, the only way to do this is to change the due date manually to the actual completion date, which means I lose the ability to report on variance because I'm going to artificially change my Due Date just to see the Gantt look more representative of the reality of the Project.

I think this approach would really give you guys a leg up on your Project Management and reduce a ton of Manual work, hoping you'll give it some consideration, thanks!

Hi Lisa! Has there been any progress on this? This is exactly what I need as well

+1 for this feature. Would really help increasing performance, especially since your deployment team recommends to use "project item type" for project phases as well.

Hey Janika Glaser and Raimund Dienst! 🙋🏻‍♀️

Stepping in for Lisa and apologizing for the delay. I checked with the team, and currently, this isn't in our product roadmap. We'll keep you in the loop if anything changes. Thank you!
