What is the dark blue bar on the left of a Gantt Chart task?

Hi All,

Some of the tasks in my Gantt Chart view are showing up with a darker blue bar on starting edge of the duration bar. These seem to affect automatic rescheduling but I cannot find any documentation on them nor can I figure out why they are attached to some tasks and not others.

Sometimes these blue bars show up randomly in the Gantt Chart not connected to any one task but to the left on an earlier date.

Can anyone tell me what these represent, how they function, how to add/modify/delete one? Point me toward some documentation?Any help would be greatly appreciated!
